Here's the update she said it's doubtful that its Native American more likely European. But she doesnt know what it is asked me to send her the weight or if possible bring it in. Said she will send it to a few more ppl in the PHMC to try and get some more information. She asked if I thought it was broken or if that's how it was intended. All and all no new info but I'll send her the weight and give it a day or two she might find out more

Ok since she had some many questions for me where I found it rural or urban? Did I find it metal detecting? If so how deep? What history does the area have? Do I think the posts were off set from being broke or some other means? Approximate weight? But didn't have much info for me other than her first thought was it was a lead seal stamp but doesn't think that anymore. First time anyone brought that up though. And its doubtfully Native American more likely European. So when I sent her the weight explained why I think the posts are off set. And told her I've been in contact with a lot of artifact dealers and have been told that this is likely 1000BC and asked her what she thinks. Let's see what she says

I hope you did not give her the Latitude and Longitude because it kinda sounds like she was trolling on where to make some searches!!:icon_scratch:

She was seeking some context.
Seems mound related, but not necessarily burial related.
Not all mounds were for burials.
Some had a hearth and seemed for other ceremonies.
Traffic by others in the area over the eons could factor as well.

Some Hopewell mounds had open ended circles..not saying it is related ,but interesting.

I don't think her job as Curator of Archeology at the State Museum of Pennsylvania gets her out of Pa. much.

From that map it looks like I found this about the same distance from the river as that mound in between the river bank and the swamp. Just wondering how long should I wait to email her back since she hasn't replied? I'm trying to play it cool and not bug her

She may need time to work a project out of the blue.
Time to research ,time to network with others , if desired or normal.
Holiday weekend coming up too.
Archaeological journals exist for some areas that take time to digest.
Layers of time and cultures and relics.

Yeah Minty, it took you like three thousand years to find the stinkin thing, a couple a days for someone to figure it out sight unseen seems reasonable. LOL

Minty, if you never figure out what it is, you can still rest on your laurels cause you got the only one !

2.97 oz. of copper thats a lot of copper to refine when
thinking your item looks crude cast, maybe sand cast
def not mold cast, or there would be more LOL
that much copper could have made a good copper
tool and or points. to me it says special purpose or art

wonder if there is a university close that has a metal spectrum thing machine
