Confrontations - I got ran off the beach tonight

It wasn't the biker dude...it was his Haig of a woman. It was her that wanted to escalate the situation by calling over her man over a trivial manner. If the owners were anything to go by you probably had good reason to be concerned about the dog.Stuff like that can make you angry and sometimes it sticks with you but let it slide and forget about it is probably the best option.

heres what I say to folks with "bad" dogs "anywhere"----
if your dog attacks me -- I 'll kill him plain and simple-- I have a "very sharp" and large gator digging tool--I'll slit the dog from stem to stern---sorry doggie thats just the way it is---if "bully" boy wants to "start" it by saying do you have a problem?--I say "ya I like dogs and would hate to have to hurt or kill your dog --- but if he attacks me thats just what I'll do to him ---so if you love him keep him outta my face and away from me---and by the way if the cops are called they WILL back me 100% on this being its self defense"---sorry but that the way I roll baby---I am no "cup cake" at 350 + and 6 '1" myself---have a nice day ;) Ivan

I finally got out to the beach this weekend for a few hours. I took my cousin with me and damnit if he didn't find more than me (beginners luck apparently)... but anyway... the night before, we were both talking about hiking, self defense, etc, and I told him that he should carry a small can of pepper-spray with him. He does a lot of hiking alone, in the woods. I told him the stuff works great against critters - of both the 2 and 4 legged variety.

SOOOOO anyway... we were out late saturday afternoon, when I noticed a guy with 2 pit bulls (with no leashes of course). One of them (the bigger one of course) charged right up to the two of us and started growling and snarling, hackles up. The dumb-ass owner said... "oh... hes fine, he won't hurt you". I told him he had 5 seconds to get the dog on a leash before i maced the dog. He copped an attitude, told me to "#@$$ off... I'll do whatever I want". I pulled the pepperspray from my pocket... he got even more pissy, and of course the dog got more agressive. 5 seconds later the pit was running down the beach yelping and crying. The owner took a step toward me, and I said "You know, it works just as well on people." He grabbed the smaller dog and went off after the other one.

My cousin quickly agreed that the pepper-spray works very well. I gave him my spare. I actually felt a little bad about spraying the dog, I know how bad that stuff burns, and with a dog's enhanced senses... ouch. I would have much rather sprayed his owner.

when he said " f you " , you should have stated that you are not into beastiality.when
he comes charging at you like gorilla on pcp,hit him with the 20 ft range bear mace.

ha ha ha just kidding

or was I ::) ?

Probably one of the more sane solutions...except any kind of verbal confrontation becomes a challenge (even to the dull witted)...

Give the a-hole a warning when he enters your personal space that you will mace him...then when he is coming at you and is still an arms distance or better...let loose...

The dog is next ;D then the 4 legged puppy...

I happen to have (now had) a tattoed-bully neighbor (currently doing time) who had challenged me several times including when the day when the moving van had just arrived...I picked up a baseball bat the previous owner left by the front door and went outside to continue the conversation...he hustled his butt out of there...and up until the time of his recent extended vacation he demonstrated his limited ability to vocalize conjugated verbs interspersed with the international sign language...whenever the spirit arrose... ;D

Beleive it or not, the neighbors in the community had a meeting with reps from the local police and outlined the problems with this person...and based on the community input, he was invited to attend a refresher program free of charge...

Now now tatoos do not make a person mean..lets no have any tatooism on here.........I have lots of them ,and i am a fellow detectorist....no racism, no sexism, no tatooism.....

Charles,

Thought I would add my own "biker" story.

The wife and I were on the 91 Freeway. leaving LA with Carolyn's folks in a car behind us. It Was bumper to bumper, more stop than go, when a guy came alongside and told the wife that the folks behind us had a set of keys hanging out of the passanger door lock.

Carolyn jumps out, runs back and takes the keys and hands them to grandmaw. She runs back, not looking behind us, opens the door and almost gets a biker with his woman on the back. 6 or 8 of them in the bunch.

He starts trying to wave me over to the side of the road, don't know what he had in mind, but we were in a nice car and looked more than middle aged. I just started laughing, because we were on our way to Arizona and I planned on doing some shooting in the desert.

I had three loaded pistols in the car and enough guns and ammo in the trunk to arm a small army in South America. Considering the thousands of cars on the road, I found it hilarious that he wanted me to pull over. When he saw how hard I was laughing, they just took off.

Moral is, no matter how big and bad you look (or even are), it's never a good idea to call out a stranger. He might end up being Wally Peepers. Did I just date myself??? ;D

Take care,

Joe Ribaudo

Lesse, big guy showin out and you alone?

It doesn't matter who owns what or who lives where under those circumstances. All the talk of gun totin and Ramboisms fly out the window, too.
(BTW, flash your gun to "scare" the guy and let him call the cops - now you are the bad guy.)
All you can do is stay keep dead calm and prep for the worst with those sorts of blowhards. Which is what you did. They arent normally looking to ACTUALLY face a swirling scoop, ala medieval mace. But you never know what he's been up to before you ran into him.
At the first opportunity, you vacated the vicinity and alerted the law, right? Another smart move. You stood firm, but knew when to pull back.

Beach (or street) fighting is not what you see in the "Die Hard" movies and you are probably NOT a real life John McClain. Unless you are prepped for it and trained, you stand at best a 50-50 chance of coming out unscathed. I can live with those odds, but they arent good.
You did well. Next time keep your cell phone handy, okay?

I feel like I'm in AA here,

Hi, my name is Joe, I'm a big burly biker dude, with tattoos, and I metal detect..... :D

at a little over 6'4" and 330 lbs, most people go the other way, and/or hide their children when they see me swinging the coil and pulling out the digging tool ;D

(even the dogs go the other way!)

I do carry my cell phone, and should probably start at least carrying mace.
