🥇 BANNER Bottle with a note inside 5 to 6 inches deep in the ground.

Better than a Hardy Boys mystery and way better than the Beal codes and Oak island combined !This is solvable. Great find and congrats on the banner!

Frank hubecheck's saloon was on S Main not far from intersection of Bridge st. and west river, and there is a wagner st. nearby, the spelling of wagner is different from the spelling
wagnor in the census index, but that happens thats why i like to look at copys of the actual census you can see neighbors and occupatin, and lots of other things

Very interesting mystery, congratulations on the find! :icon_thumright:

Apparently kidnapping and robbery were pandemic during this time period in Chippewa Falls. Found this article about a big one, related? The one thing that caught my eye here was the name of the Chief of Police, Ed Holtz. Any relation to the "Joe Holtz wife" in this story? Cover up? Cops running a robbery ring and this poor fellow stumbled onto it? Hmmm... :icon_scratch:

Just wanted to add a note that .38 revolvers ( as mentioned in the note ) were predominantly used by law enforcement only in 1936. Something to think about.

This is pretty awesome. I actually finally registered for this site (instead of just eyeballing) just so I could comment. My wild-a$$ guess it this letter was written to explain to the reader what might have happened if the writer ended up missing. Given the writing, I think the writer may have limited education so we may need to fudge on grammar and spelling.

I believe page 1 reads:
Arty Kennedy
Frank Rolland
Boss 36
1936
Frank Hubecheck
Chippawa Falls, Wis.
[Salonist, saloonist
1900
1910
Frank Rolland
Frank Hubacheck
[autumn, Austin, Androy] hotel
[favor]
its the [one] here just same talk
same girl robbed me as I looked at her

PS: google tells there was a Frank Hubacheck in the MN, WI area at the time who was an attorney and anti-loan shark crusader.

There was a young Art Kennedy in Rochester in 1906. I found this in the Pine Island record. Pub. Date August 6, 1903

Chippewa Falls (and many other rural Wisconsin towns) were big hideouts for Chicago gangsters during that era.

Yes, indeed. There is that to consider as well.

One thing that confuses me about the whole thing with the note though, is the mention of the "wives". What could the wives have to do with this mystery? Unless a) this was a domestic situation, or b) it occurred in a public place, like a business or possibly a workplace.

This would be around the time that labor unions came into place in that area. Could this be some kind of union dispute? Of course, we can't rule the mob out of that either, can we? Curiouser and curiouser.

In Chippewa Falls there is an asylum also it was originally called the northern colony, it had a main building and several outbuildings for housing each known as a ''cottage''

Do we have any tneter's up there in wisconsin, maybe rattle there cage get them to do a little foot work.

I love doing these projects even though it really means nothing to me, and nobody will be better off if we
solve this, or will they? who knows? but i will with it for years if we dont solve it.

Fascinating read.Thanks for posting.Jerry.Bristol UK:icon_thumright:

Awesome find!!! Congratulations!
Thanks for sharing but the anticipation drove me about nuts.
Well played.

Time to look up old news papers from that area, who knows what you might find ! This is way too cool thou, 70 plus year old mystery.
Problem is, online newspaper archives (at least the two that I'm aware of) do not go past 1922 because of copyright laws. If we are correct in our estimation that this takes place in the 1930s, all we may find are references to some of the characters, years before this took place.

For some reason, you can get more results for Frank Hubacheck by searching for only the last name of Hubacheck. Still doesn't seem to lead anywhere new, though.

Search Results « Chronicling America « Library of Congress

Yes without the name Frank in front, There is no Connection & like you said.
1930s is out of our Research range.

At least in News Papers, over the net.

Perhaps a Local Hysterical Society with energy,
wanting a project could be of research Help.

Downside They may try to claim the find

Not sure what you're saying, but I was finding Frank Hubacheck references when searching for Hubacheck alone.

I also was mistaken about the max date... Chronicling America goes to 1925. The Minnesota site only goes to 1922. Both are close enough to 1936 to give us some idea of the possible characters, just not the exact story (assuming it is something that ever even made the news)

I found a Frank Hubachek on Familysearch.org in Racine, Wis.
