Of the two Hubaceks above, im going with the one who worked for wagnor and was married to mary and had two children living with them
thats the one i posted earlier in the thread, they are all buried in the same cemetery in wadena county minnesota.

fyrffytr1, are you having trouble with the family search site, i cant get the original census to come up, i can do
way better detective work when I can see those also the original draft registration every male in america had to
sign up for the draft, Ive seen kids as young as 12 and lod geezers in their 90's signed up for the 1917 draft
and you can jog through and find other people in the same area that signed up and more often than not where they worked.

it was working fine last week then they worked on it, maybe i need to report it, one of these days im going to get ancestry.com back
if you have that and fold three, newspspers.com, and newspaper archives.com and findagrave then you can search some history.

When I see the ledger "Butchers Daily Report" I cant help to think about the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" and what happened in that movie.
The secret is in the sauce.
Is there a missing person in this note?
Is there a diner nearby that hosted BBQs? :tongue3:

I think the name could be Zahradnik or Zohradnik. Here is an 1885 census entry (I think unrelated - just to show the script) showing that name in script and how it looks similar to the name in the notes.

This could all be referring to events that happened in Linn County, Iowa. Frank Hubachek was from that area before he was in Wisconsin, there is a Zahradnik family there too.

I also thought maybe the name was "Anton Holets" and maybe "farm"? (under "Frank Rolland" and "Frank Hubecheck" and above the dates 1895 1899). Anton Holets was in Linn County, Iowa too at that time.

If you are a member of ancestery dot com, looking up the names on there might help. Might be able to pinpoint locations of them at least. Or more documents like newspapers. Drop a full list of names here and I could look into them myself but I might not be able to do so till this evening or tomorrow.

I've searched my fingers to a nub, lol, but the only place I found every name, ( with the exception of Yohedrick or any combination thereof ), was in the CCC Rolls for Wisconsin.

There I found:

Frank Roland/Rolland/Rowland

Frank Hubechek

Arthur Kennedy

Joe Holtz/Holets

....all in the same directory.

There were CCC camps near Chippewa Falls, WI and Rochester, MN both in that time period (1936). Now I'm wondering if this is some disagreement arising from one of those camps? Times were hard and being "boss" might mean the difference in $30 mo. pay vs. $40. I dunno, it's making me crazy, lol.

I'm sure learning a lot of interesting history about this area and the time period, though. Always a plus in my way of thinking. And who doesn't love a mystery. Kudos again to everyone trying to solve this one! :icon_thumright:

Oh, almost forgot...while researching Quarry Hill where this was found, I was looking for info on the slaughterhouse and ran across an item about a theft of some dynamite from the dynamite shed during this same period. Was quite a stir at the time, as the President was scheduled to visit Rochester in the next few days. The theft was investigated by the FBI as a possible plot, and extra precautions were made to protect him. Quite interesting times indeed.

Holy Shoot & Shinola!! You found ALL of those names... every one... in CCC rolls? Pretty hard to ignore that! Didn't say what camp or state they were in? (I haven't dug into your links yet). I think you're onto something here!

This could be our Frank Hubachek. He was 92 in 1986, which would have made him 42 in 1936, which seems reasonable. The only problem is that he was with that firm during that period.

Lawyer Frank Hubachek, 92 - tribunedigital-chicagotribune

Frank Brookes Hubachek, 92, senior partner of Hubachek & Kelly and a long-time Chicago lawyer, was the retired chairman of the executive committee of Household International, formerly Household Finance Corporation (HFC). He served as the lending firm`s general counsel from 1927 to 1967.

Memorial services for Mr. Hubachek, a resident of Glencoe for 57 years, will be 4:35 p.m. Friday in the Glencoe Union Church, 263 Park Ave., Glencoe. He died Monday in Highland Park Hospital.

Egads I just got sucked into reading this entire thread. Pretty nifty. I do not have the time to get sucked in but my two cents on the CCC Rolls and someone getting a Cabin stolt would be that the boss would have a cabin provided with their pay. If a Green horn were coming up to take over the old boss would lose the cabin and have to move out to make room for the new guy. This was the depression era and someone could (and did) get their heads knocked in for something like this.

I wonder did the CCC help build those two asylums.

I don't think so BS, the hospital opened in 1879, and no further major construction til 1948. Can't rule it out though. I'm trying at present to determine if one of the CCC camps was near the hospital, which might offer an explanation for how the bottle came to be found near the slaughterhouse on the hospital farm. I'm still puzzling how this person obtained the butcher slips though. And I just noticed the printed date on the slips say 190_ ? Dosn't fit the 1936 time period. :icon_scratch:

I'm still plodding through the record I linked to....this may take awhile, lol. I had only plugged the names into the database search on the document and verified all names were found. Having to track them down now. The document is for the state of Wisconsin. Will have to find one for MN if it's even available.
