I took my new dues 2 out this week with my brothers hit several of my favorite sites and found a bunch of nothing, they were joking I was holding out and would find the good stuff after they left. Well…. Went out this morning to locate an old barn and what do you know, had to show them and let them make fun haha.

living in a farm field has definitely taken a toll compared to the quarter from my yard

the deus keeps producing firsts for me, never had a half dollar, only found one barber dime, now I have a full set, that dime was the only silver until now and just the rate at which I find coins especially in hunted areas is surprising

Sorry if I make some of you cringe but it was looking pretty crusty as it dried so I tried the baking soda hot water water and tin foil method a few times to see if i could get it to show some detail, I think it worked pretty well, whatever is going on with the cheek and laurels was always there but it doesn’t appear to be a crust you can remove don’t think there’s much I can do about that. Kinda tricky to photograph… looks a little normal in hand but can’t quite get it, tried low light, direct light and no light still comes up more shiny than in hand

That is really strange looking.
The reverse looks good đź‘Ť
It almost looks like a counterfeit.
Like the plating is wearing off.
Wonder if it's just loosing the mint luster?

I had the same thought, but I think odds are better it’s a reaction to fertilizers and pesticides that have been spread over it for 100+ years not to mention the physical damage on the backside makes me think it’s been hit by a plow a few times, meaning it’s been close to the surface giving it more exposure to chemicals.

Looking at the shield it didn't see much circulation.
Never thought of the harsh environment it might have endured.

That’s an amazing find. How do you lose a coin that big? Maybe drunk at night?🤣 If you put that coin in your pocket with your usual change, I’m betting it would change for the better. And it doesn’t take all that long. I’ve been carrying a 1945 silver quarter for a yr now. It’s bright any shiny.

Yeah when I saw the edge I was thinking a normal size coin, it felt like it was the size of a dinner plate when I popped the dirt off the top and revealed its actual size. I’m glad someone dropped it, I get lots of pennies and dimes, I really didn’t expect to ever find anything bigger than a quarter. Especially on an old barn site… that was a fair bit to lose for a poor Kansas farmer at the beginning of the century, and not an easy coin to lose if simply dropped, maybe your right about alcohol being the culprit

Great FINDS What program did you run ?

Tekkna, I was thinking about trying fast but I have a tendency to leave a site when I find something good that way I don’t feel greedy, and it gets me looking forward to the next time I can get out. (Private property so I don’t have any competition)… I was really feeling out the boundaries still when I hit the coin so there’s plenty of site to go. I thought I’d try a few different programs and see how different they are… I thought maybe fast because there is a lot of iron chatter, it was almost constant on tekkna.

Here’s the other stuff that wasn’t complete trash. A big old bolt, a hammer, I personally like finding old tools, a round ball and probably a smashed one, and evidence of a structure some salt glaze crockery, purple glass so some age and blue and brown glass
