Avagos Goodies

Not a whole lot to report again this week. We got our full ten box order with below average results. Yielded 1 x 90% and 9 x 40% for a total of 1.69 ounces.

Did get a neatly toned 40% ender this week. You can see someone's thumbprint from who knows how long ago.

We officially passed 200 ounces on the year as well. We have found 86 more silvers than last year's total but 60 fewer ounces. Just goes to show how big a difference the 90% to 40% ratio makes. Last year our ratio was 1 x 90% for every 1.3 x 40% (incredible ratio due to a couple boxes loaded with 90%) while this year's ratio is 1 x 90% for every 4.6 x 40%.

Good luck everyone and happy hunting!

Incredible numbers either way! Congrats on the 200 oz mark!

Avago: can you do me a favor on the thumb print coin & soak it in a DAWN Liquid soap solution with HOT water in Rx bottle for a few days. That's how I clean my silver dimes, but this should prove just how well it works.

No way man, I love it like it is! Who knows who made that thumbprint and how long ago? :)

Another steady week, nothing to write home about but beats getting skunked! Had an extra two boxes this week... our 12 yielded 1 x 90% and 18 x 40%, all Kens for a total of 3.02 oz. Keep stacking!

Avago: sorry for asking, but I thought you'd only be stacking that one, and I never sa

With technology, you could probably identify the person if you really wanted to!

Skunky skunktown over here, just has been terrible for the last five weeks now. We did 18 boxes over the last two weeks with dismal results.

Two weeks ago we did 12 boxes which yielded 8 skunks. The other four yielded 1 x 90% and 7 x 40% for a grand total of 1.40 ounces.

Only did six boxes this past week due to the Veterans day holiday. Ended up with four skunks and the other two yielded 1 x 90% and 4 x 40%, not even an ounce.

Really rough hunting... all you can do is push through! Over the past five weeks we've averaged just 1.04 silvers per box. Yeesh...

Ouch, hope your boxes improve... The Christmas silver has to start flowing soon!

Did our regular 10 boxes this week with garbage results again. Eight skunks with the other two yielding 4 x 40%. That a 0.40 silver per box average, just awful. We'll be having a short week this week due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Don't think we'll be missing much anyway.

Short week this week due to the Thanksgiving holiday shuffling around my pickups. Only had four boxes yield 1 x 40% this week.

With the nosedive silver prices have taken over the past several weeks I've been buying up a bit on the side... Just purchased a 100 oz. Johnson Matthey bar with the profits I made buying and selling on the side, a.k.a. free to me!

Sorry to hear about your boxes but nice buy on the 100 oz bar, what premium did you pay for it?

Hey Buff, I got a great deal on it from my LCS. I am a weekly buyer in there and had previously let him know I was in the market for a 100oz'er. When I walked in last week, the customer ahead of me happened to be selling one, fortuitous for me...

LCS paid 50 cents/oz under spot and sold it to me for 25 cents/oz over. AWESOME price for a JM bar and a quick and easy $75 for him. His margins are slim on silver but he also buys/pawns all kinds of other stuff.

Phew, time for the December stats and the year-end round up!

December was up and down for us, two weeks of good hunting and two weeks of bad hunting. We did ten boxes each week, results noted below.

Week 1: 7 x 90% and 18 x 40% for a total of 5.19oz including four Franklins (1955), a Walker, a 2009-S silver proof and a 1900 Barber http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/coin-roll-hunting/523449-gimme-haircut-like-ben-had-55-a.html
Week 2: 9 x 90% and 17 x 40% for a total of 5.77oz including five Franklins
Week 3: 2 x 90% and 3 x 40% for a total of 1.17oz including a holed Walker
Week 4: 0 x 90% and 3 x 40% for a total of 0.44oz

And that rounds out our 2016 year of CRH!

We ended up with 223.11 ounces and 1205 silvers. That's 37 ounces fewer than last year but 118 more silvers. Last year we had way more 90% and fewer 40%. We also searched 139 more boxes this year but found less silver.

Here's a detailed breakdown of our 2016 stats:

Avago's 2016 Stats & Totals

Since we began tracking here on TNet, we've searched and accumulated quite a bit of silver!

Here's the breakdown given today's spot price of $16.40/oz. Keep in mind, there are a LOT of hours invested here. If one was hunting simply to make money, their time would be better spent at a minimum wage job. It's all about the thrill of the hunt, not knowing what (if anything) you'll find, and preserving history. Hope you all had a great 2016 and are looking forward to a silver-filled 2017!

Better returns than the stock market. Very impressive stats. Have you set goals for 2017? Only way to go is UP.

Thanks Dozer D, glad you enjoyed! As evidenced, there are a lot of variables and a lot of luck involved which makes it hard to set goals. We had two boxes in 2015 that accounted for 65 ounces of the total. Take away the outliers and the general trend is more searched, more found.

Hoping to at least match what we did this year, the goal will sit again at 200oz for 2017. Hope AG price heads UP in 2017 as well. Good luck!

Hi everyone, posting our January round up. Nothing really spectacular to mention, a pretty low rate of return on the boxes we searched but relatively few skunks in the mix.

We skipped the first week of January to give the tellers a break around the holidays and picked back up for 30 boxes in the last three weeks of the month.

Week ending 1/12: 8 boxes searched, yielded 1 x 90% and 8 x 40% for a total of 1.54 ounces

Week ending 1/19: 12 boxes searched, yielded 2 x 90% and 12 x 40% including a 1942-D Walker for a total of 2.50 ounces

Week ending 1/26: 10 boxes searched, yielded 4 x 90% and 11 x 40% including a 1951 Franklin and a 2000-S silver proof for a total of 3.07 ounces.

Skunk rate of just 36.7% which is better than the norm, but only found 1.27 silvers per box on average which is below the norm. Ended up with 7 x 90% and 31 x 40% for a total of 7.12 ounces, a pretty lean month even considering the missed week.

Hard to miss the big fat rim of the modern silver proof!

Hopefully the upward trend continues into February, should have 12 boxes coming in next week. Good luck!
