Nox 800 AT Max, Mine lab se pro/ Teknetics 7500 / teknetics 8000 / fisher m-scope (aquanut) 1280x/2ea compass relic magnum 6 /compass yukon 77b (professional) /compass yukon 71b
I found this coin while metal detecting when I was a kid. I thought it was fake until I brought it to a coin show and a dealer said it was not necessarily fake. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it?

The shiny plating(I think you are refering to) is just wear from heavy circulation. :) sorry I if you are not getting through, I'm a bit thick :D
I think you just like to disagree. :D You said it yourself. YES, the wear is from circulation. It is on the HIGH SPOTS only. How do you explain there is no discoloration on the LOW SPOTS? (The explanation is that it is was recently lost. Certainly not 1000 years ago).
well obviously HH coin was lost not long after it was struck, hence no wear, on high or low spots :D

Just like this one I found

SS

HH coin was lost not long after it was struck. Wouldn't that rule out ancient?
Not if it was struck during Ancient times

You lost me on that argument. Struck and lost in ancient time, but no age to show for 2000+ years in ground ???

I actually put that on the coin, to enhance the lettering, the coin was infact very shiney when I found it :)
So now you are admitting to faking patina or silver oxidation on your dug coins? ??? ???

...and how exactly do you do that?

http://beadwork-jewelry-making.suite101.com/article.cfm/oxidize_your_silver_wire_jewelry
Is there something wrong with darkening my coins :icon_scratch: I don't understand you using the word faking :icon_scratch:

SS
Im sorry I cannot understand darkening of your coins. I also cannot understand using these coins as an example in this discussion. If you are lucky enough to find a mint coin, it would be foolish of you to oxidize it. Im sorry you lost me completely..

I use the word "fake" because creating a thousand years of oxidation/patina in one day is usually called faking.

Yes, oxidizing and then cleaning to bring out detail on your coins is none of my business. I just dont understand why you would post it here to prove a point about how coins look coming out of the ground. All you are doing is cluttering up the thread with nonsense.

You asked about the darker on the low points, I was trying to help, I won't bother in the future.

SS we are discussing how coins look coming out of the ground after 2000 years. Dont post an altered coin to make an example. HH said he only used water to clean.

I posted outher coins, which you chose not to acknowledge, I can post as many coins as you want, in any condition, you obviously never read the link about fake coins I posted, this was my whole point from the start, and proberbly the reason why you have had no replys from the emails you have sent to experts.

I should have never used your silver coin as an example. I didnt realize you altered it. Thats my fault. I understand now you are only highlighting the letters.

Please post an ancient bronze coin that you dug exactly as it was when it came out of the ground with only water cleaning so we can compare to HHs coin. Thank you.

I read your link about fake coins. I believe I already posted it.

I haven't got one, do I have to :dontknow: I posted Ancient bronze coins with no corrosion, I will post another, it compares to HH coin, isn't the whole point to this about it being real or fake :icon_scratch: this one I am posting dates from 190bc, it looks as if was made yesterday(must be fake :D)

You should read pargraphs 2 and 5 to my link :read2:

I read your paragraph 2 and 5. I admit pictures are deceiving but you dont have to be an expert to spot this one. Im sorry I tried to explain it to you.

[/quotI didn't say it was the same coin :help: it's the condition we are talking about :help: corrosion on Ancient coins, coins in as struck condition.

it's you that is missing the whole point to this thread, and my replies, so I will say it for the last time.

To be come an expert will require many years of experience, and you will have to handle many THOUSANDS of both known and genuine, and known fake coins.

A proper authentication requires a physical examination.

Many genuine coins have been condemed by people who are not qualified to do so.

SS if you think this is authentic then what does that say about your experience? ::)

Once again you are wrong, I am not experienced, that's why I said I didn't know, unlike some, I leave the verdict to experts in the field, not come on and say Copy, or fantasy coin etc. the only post I made when I said defenetly Ancient was a joke, hence the laughing logo.
