About "Diggers"...

I finally got my wife interested in beach hunting, because of the high chance of finding pennies. But she HATES going with me on dry land hunts, although she did get to see my snoopy dance once when I found a US box Plate. ( I don't know how I got her to go out in the woods that time?)

There just is not enough exciting things to dig up to fill a 30 minute time slot on TV. Unless the site has been salted heavily. Or you are in the middle of a battlefield..

Reality TV, I am sure most people watch it to see the identifications. The rest is too scripted. It looks like it takes a lot of aspirin too.

Ya I hear ya.

You know what we need, all our MD'ers should wear cameras when they hunt. Some of their detecting forays would make awesome TV shows and they would at lest be the real deal. We get our selves in some real pickles!
I would like a show comparing detectors side by side, and giving tips on tweaking them to get the best performance.

You think I'm asking for too much?

I think they got their batteries in backwards and their headphones are on too tight

other than that, they are good for a laugh and prime examples of what the idiot box has to offer

Where do I sign up?

I'd love to have a T.V. show (scripted or not) where I got paid a butt load of money to act silly and endorse products. (and hunt where the rest of us can't)

I would be surprised at each and every find, planted or not, do a silly little dance... hell, I'd even drink lot's of coffee so I could occasionally wet myself on a good find

...and then go to the bank with another large check.

ha ha G.I.B I'm amazed at how long this thread has gone on for. Some watch the show some don't. even though My hunting buddies and I would not act like that we still get excited when we get a hit. That's what it's all about. I posted this vid on another thread, but it's the diggers with a member of the Garrett family. they talk 'normal' and cuss a bit, then they re-say what they just said for the camera in their 'Diggers' lingo. If the show was toned down a bit it may appeal to more serious detectors like us lol. Cheers and HH everyone.

Very cool video and I actually prefer them without the antics. Where did you find the video? Gotta watch some more. They didn't really find anything great and to be honest, it reminds me of my own metal detecting trips here on the farm. I usually toss everything in a plastic grocery bag and dump it into my recycle bin when I get back to the house.

I noticed a few things from this video that I don't normally when watching the show. Their swing seemed pretty fast compared to how I swing my VX3. Is that the normal swing speed for that machine? I follow the White's instructions for the VX3 and my swing is much slower compared to theirs. That has me wondering if I'm swinging too slow. I also noticed that neither use a cuff band over their swing arm. The AT Pro/Gold must be very well balanced and light weight. Awesome! I also noticed they just toss their unit any old place on the ground while digging. I really like the fact that the At is so rugged and WATERPROOF. I treat my VX3 like my fiancee treats an expensive porcelain doll and I'm ever fearful of wet grass and hidden puddles.

Thanks for the video!

I was just looking on youtube for MD vids and came across this one by accident. I believe it is now on the Garrett web site. Agreed I would love to see more diggers shows like this and even tamed down one more notch. Hope more people like this one. Cheers.

I should have read the rest of your post Juice. Yes the swing (in my humble opinion) was fast. I swing slower.

My two cents in this is, my daughters and I have a good time watching the show, we all laugh at how they act, enjoy watching them dig something up , and maybe if "Iam" lucky they may learn abit of history ,

There have been several shows where they act just like you suggest...guess what happened to them.

Yeah, its just a show, nothing more , nothing less. If I didn't like the antics, I would still watch it for the history and the cool stuff they dig.

I personally recommend the Remington 870 to accomplish your task.

I've watched a few episodes of Diggers and wondered why they're so head over heals about finding junk? I thought maybe we're not in on the gag and those two are sweet on each other, but the Internet won't tell you that unless they play pro sports or are major actors. The Weather Channel had a show that wasn't so over the top, but DirecTV didn't want to pay the price to have them on the system anymore so I don't know if that show's on still. Like others the wrestler's family catch phrase, "Boom Baby!" was just as irritating. I've read the stuff here often, but this is my first time as a registered viewer. I bought a White's XLT while I was trucking from an older man who wanted the newest model, but I got hurt at work & have a hard time walking & standing, so unless I lose a fair amount of weight getting down on my knees is out of the question. It's good to see that the cream still rises to the top in the case of LuckyLarry, I wish I had your range of experience. I wanted to buy a M.D. in my youth, but was ridiculed by those influential to me, but I try to keep up by reading of the Fishers, talking to folks, getting a magazine, watching TV & YouTube shows & the wonderful Internet! Enjoy folks!

I don't think these shows are targeting that much smaller audience that we all hoped they were, or hope they someday will. I doubt they're really out to attract seasoned and/or experienced hunters. In the big TV show picture of things that's actually not a very large viewing audience and I suspect their advertisers already realize that most of this much smaller audience already has a metal detector. The wider the audience the more attractive things become to their advertisers.
