65 Million gun purchases has to mean something!

I was in the 98th Bomb Wing permanent at Lincoln Nebr. with alert status in England and Spain. Our sister wing was the 307th.
Even though the world was nuts I did have some good times. The key to good times then was to never weigh the consequences.
Few today know just how close we got. SAC was the most potentially destructive military machine ever created by man. Enough power to destroy the world several times over.
Maybe that's why when I see people acting out their irrational fears about the world, I just scratch my head.

Hvacker - unfortunately there will always be those people who instill fear in a population for their own greed and lust for power. It's a very very powerful tool to use on the ignorant and uneducated. Been happening since the beginning of time. Gives people a cause, a rallying point, a reason to feel they are part of something larger. Best.

Content with Ruger when running a slide. Used to carry their 22/45,still my most accurate. Lc9 would be a great carry candidate, were i not over stocked. Something to consider horse trading should market calm down. Familiarity and confidence in revolver though it can print, it would take time to get used to semi auto again.
Pesky safety too on them new fangled ones! Hammer on empty cylinder, its ready to rock single or double. But then there's capacity.
Chair, unless you are carrying a VERY old wheel gun, no need to have an empty chamber. I own a S&W that I bought in '70. All the REAL guns (not cheap wanna be's) have a "rail" that moves into position to make the firing pin work to the hammer. Try it (with an unloaded gun) to see what I mean. Slowly cock the weapon to watch the rail move into place. What I am saying is the gun CANNOT fire by dropping it on the hammer. Really. Smith also says the hammer will break off before it would be possible to ignite the bullet in the chamber under the hammer. You may carry 6 rounds in the weapon... unless it is a "single action army... that gun merely calls for a "half-cock" setting. TTC

Just finished reading this thread. Guess I'm in those "stats" too. I purchase a gun or two each year because ... well ... I like them for all of the above reasons you guys have already mentioned. I do not think a single gun in my collection has gone down in value. Can't say that for anything else that I collect. Now damnit, I see there is something else I want. Someone mentioned a Beeman air rifle. I'll look into that. Might take the strain off of my ammo supply when I get into a target range mood. As it stands, finding ammo lately is harder than finding gold nuggets.

I will agree there is a lot of bad info coming from NPR.......total trash. This could be classified as radical media!

Actually a conservative took over the head position of NPR a few years ago. They fired a liberal and said they wanted more balance. I missed the name and don't know if he is still running things but he was. Some will say PBS doesn't have conservative shows but they actually do. The McLaughlin Group, Washington Week. MI5 just to name a few. It's a mistake to think because a station doesn't sound like Fox they don't have anything truthful to say.

Red, if you get up to maine give me a shout!

I'm probably closer to you when i go to my brothers house than i am from here, then again i would have to look at a map.But most definitely i will.

Though it is unfortunate that it is harder and harder to find "unbiased" news on either side. Just the facts maam. But the news is business and the shows need listeners and a biased message gets you listeners. For what it's worth a couple of my favorite news sources are the bbc and the economist.

Older 38 (unshrouded) going to house full house now(thanks terry) it has rail (paddle looking thing). SA 44 has a couple witness marks for an empty chamber. It does have a hammer block(rod parallel to cylinder) i don,t use when carrying or hunting. Yep,carried half cocked.

I began watching BBC after 911. PBS began a nightly BBC broadcasts after that. The BBC has stories about countries broadcasters here wouldn't cover or maybe not even know about. It's interesting.
It's said the news on the networks changed when advertisers were brought in and the news became a show. Sixty Min began it when they discovered there is bucks in the news if handled with a hit of drama.
Fox, I believe is just show and no reliable news at all. Once a woman anchor person on fox was looking closely at Obama's birth certificate and said "It's obviously been Photoshopped." I work with PS and one thing I can say with confidence, there is NOTHING obvious about it. It would take an expert with large magnification and then there would still be questions. When a person can work on a pixel level it won't be obvious. In other words, she lied. I don't want to get into the birth thing I just know that there's no proof of anything by her staring at it. So much for entertainment.

On the negative side a network will hesitate reporting anything that might affect advertising dollars. The tobacco corporate law suit against Sixty Min. also caused them to reconsider their stories.
Notice how many network adds are for drug companies. Awhile ago the adds might not even tell what a drug is for. I think they've stopped that anyway.
PBS at least has no advertising and so doesn't owe anything to the corporates. A person in the news business said once advertisers weren't even allowed in the news room.
There is a web site called, I think, Truth In Broadcasting. They examine things said and report facts about it. The site didn't seem to have any particular political bent. I went there to check on something Limpballs said. If you looked up liar in the encyclopedia you'd would see his picture.

I really can't remember. I'm sure you could Google NPR. Even after that move NPR still has a liberal reputation. Too bad because I don't think it's either. Truth has no bias'. When I was on the road I liked Point Counterpoint. I think that was the name. Been awhile.
