au duck ... great photos ... can you tell us a bit about the samurai ... where did you find it etc.\

thanks goldlilly and jeff of pa.
this was found somewhere in the hills in central visayas.
it is actually a Japanese NCO issued saber with serial number, however i dont think the relative of the original owner would be interested with it.
there actually is another one, i think it is a katana, but the handle is already gone.
How i wish someday i got find an officer's KATANA. that would be a real treasure for me. ;D.

btw i understand some WWII airplanes have some platinum in it. anybody got an idea what would be the amount and the percentage of it? i would think it is located in the airplanes "muffler" (dont know the exact part name).
TIA

Re: 2007 EXPEDITION: YAMASH-I-T-A ( Japanese) TREASURE

Dear Gboy,

Uncle Doug McArthur, Lolo Joe McMicking, Uncle Ed Landsdale, Lolo Ferdie, Magsaysay plus both US and Philippine Governments and even the Japanese deny the existence of treasure here. You can read about these statements in any of the libraries here in Manila. Maybe the few tons the Central Bank moved to corregidor but that's about all.

You really want to present a case that is contrary to official statements? C'mon man, if the Magsaysay says it's so then isn't it so?

No war loot here, but we have a lot of interesting flora, fauna and pork dishes :) for you tourists out there

i would tend to agree with merx688 that there is no yamas-hita (gold) treasure here in P.I. ;) ;) ;)
So far i have only seen a
1/ saber and katana + possibly and old plane part with possibly a platinum alloy.
2/ big shell which i posted over a year ago.
here it is again.

So you see no gold trasures in P.I ;D ;D ;D

Re: 2007 EXPEDITION: YAMASH-I-T-A ( Japanese) TREASURE

just recently, I've seen 24 pcs of gold bars size 2x6x1 weighing 6.2 more or less. my friends drilled 3 pcs of it and had it assayed at cebuana and it's 21 carats up. But as for me, i still have my doubts whether it's real or not. I just don't know how a geniune gold bar looks like. What I've seen has a marking of sumatra but the way it was engraved looks doubtful. It's rough!!!
I took a picture of one bar through my cell phone and maybe later I'll send it through the moderator for him to post and for members to scrutinized what I've seen..

You are all right(Auduck & merx688),no treasure here in P.I,lots of gold scam only and katana and antique sword and no one care to buy them at all............ ???

Nice swords you have there Joe.
The 1st sword i think is an NCO shin-gunto. Does the serial numbers on the blade, tsuba and saya matched each other?
The 3rd sword i think is a kyu-gunto.
I like the 2nd sword.
I would care to buy them, if they are yours. ;D

Re: 2007 EXPEDITION: YAMASH-I-T-A ( Japanese) TREASURE

Joe,

Those are just ordinary Japs samurai...no value...
I tried to sell 2 samurais before...one belongs from a vice admiral (serial no. 213) and the other one same on picture (5 digit serial number)...it took me 3 years to be able to sell the samurai...
The vice admiral samurai was sold at $500 only and the ordinary samurai was sold at $300...NOT WORTH FOR 3 YEARS OF LOBBYING/SELLING...

In reality...the Japs WW2 samurai have no value...except for sentimental or collector maybe, but the price is so small that it is not worth an effort to sell.
If you expect a huge amount for your samurai...try to retrace the owner, maybe his family is millionaire...then thats the only time you can demand higher price...

In Ermita,manila, antique shops...orig Japs WW2 Samurai sell for only $200-300 max....he,he,he... ;D

Re: 2007 EXPEDITION: YAMASH-I-T-A ( Japanese) TREASURE

I'd take $200 if it were mine.

$200 is Nothing to complain about .

Re: 2007 EXPEDITION: YAMASH-I-T-A ( Japanese) TREASURE

badz,

Sorry...your Sumatra gold bars...looks FAKE to me...(thats my opinion of course).
Based on my experience the most widely fake bars are...Sumatra, Cambodia, Burma and Djakarta...If you see this kind of gold bars...99% are fake, bcoz they are the bars that are usually seen by syndicate and easily copied of its hallmark.

In 1996, our team was able to sell one piece, 6 kilo gold bar with hallmark of "Union Bank of Switzerland" it was recovered in Bukidnon area.., we deformed and sold to Central Bank. At first glanced or even at picture it looks orig simply bcoz its the only gold bar with that kind of marking...not yet seen by syndicate...thats why I never exposed even its picture, am afraid it might be copied by syndicate...

Thats why next time you see those Asian hallmark gold bars...most likely it is a fake... ;D ....but of course some are orig , but it seldom happens.

Re: 2007 EXPEDITION: YAMASH-I-T-A ( Japanese) TREASURE

thanks guys for your opinions. When i saw it, held it and scrunized it, my impression is that the item is fake. They were selling it to us for P1.5M/pc........but it didn't pass our test, though.

fake also ???

I can't Test what's in Pictures.
and I'm not going to Pretend I know everything.
So I can't (Won't say Fake Or Real)
But why would you think Fake ?

I say take it to someone who can tell you,
but be carefull.
There are those who would say Fake & then try to buy it
for alot less then it's Worth.
Or tell you they will Throw it away for you :P

Nice Coin by the way.

Re: 2007 EXPEDITION: YAMASH-I-T-A ( Japanese) TREASURE

Treasure hunters,

Here in the Philippines there are lots of scam artist selling fake gold bars and only a few sells original gold bars, here are some few tips that i gathered thru the years..

TIPS FOR BUYING GOLD

1) PRICE - take notice about the price of the gold bars that sellers are selling...
ex: 6 kilo... LMER $127,000 price,
usually the syndicate sells it for $10,000 or more (thats a warning sign already), bcoz its unbelievably low price ...NOBODY in a right mind would sell a $127K gold bar for only $10K...got it? unless they are syndicate...The only ignorant people that sells cheap gold bars are natives...and usually native sell it for only $100-200 per 6 kilo gold bar.
Remember that syndicate will not waste their time molding a 6 kilo gold bar and sell it for only $100-200 dollars, bcoz it would not be profitable enough Therefore if somebody offers you a 6 kilo gold bar for $10K or more...THATS FAKE...however if somebody offers you at $100-200 only MOST LIKELY ITS ORIGINAL....

2) HALLMARK - most well known FAKE GOLD BARS are with Asian hallmark...bcoz these hallmark are already exposed to the public thats why it is widely used and copied by syndicates... like Burma, Cambodia, Sumatra, Java, Djakarta.......therefore if somebody offer you with that kind of hallmark...be carefull already...a warning sign...

If somebody offers you a gold bar...simply ask the price and hallmark...if its between $10K or more price range (6 kg) and asian hallmark...NEVER WASTE YOUR TIME...its fake... :-*

Re: 2007 EXPEDITION: YAMASH-I-T-A ( Japanese) TREASURE

I have yet to see/hear/read about any "real" bars of gold coming out of the Philippines, other than commercial brands, sold by reputable dealers. The fake bars of gold are always associated with "treasure hunters", for some odd reason.

i fully disagree with the association of fake gold bars with treasure hunters here in the philippines. it would be more appropriate to say"fake gold bars" sold by "fake treasure hunters".
would you agree with me?

I agree.

But Better yet.

"fake gold bars sold by Con Artists".

Leave the Treasure Hunting Community out of it Completly.

I take offense to Any attempts to Discredit Treasure Hunters.
& WILL React.

In your mixed bag of Moderator goodies...do you have a device that separates "Con Artists" and "Treasure Hunters"? In case you haven't been paying attention, the only ones posting pictures of fake gold....are "Treasure Hunters".

And they are Not saying they are trying to sell them
to you. or anyone else here.

Please Remember that. ;)
