So I went back to a church (1880-90's) I have hit about five or six times and came up with absolutely nothing every time not even much clad so today I went out after my girlfriend got home for a few hours before dark and found this! Looking it up now not quite sure if this is a key date or just the 1909-s. Any way cool old wheaty!

This was my only find there it's definitely tough pickings there!

You're not alone my friend. I've been hovering over this find and thread since this morning when I was stunned as to what I was reading and seeing. I really feel great for the Stoner in Oregon for recovering this amazing find. Next time he gets back to his home town here in Illinois which is only about 15 miles from my home he'll have to look me up because we're going HUNTING! :headbang:

You can count on that 815!! We will definitely do some hunting. I have the fever!! I swear this hobby is addicting like gambling but I prefer the hobby!! I gain tons of historical knowledge about my area and FREAKING find treasure, what hobby is better than that!!

Oh yeah he differently has a rabbit's foot up his butt! Lol I fell honored to be able to share the moment with him on this freakishly rare occasion. And I love the idea that he didn't even know what he had then he researched and he's mind blew. Then he posted it on here and then he's mind must of really blew. We're all salivating over here.

It's the healthiest addiction I've ever had and unfortunately I had them all being raised in New Orleans. I've never thought about old silver so much in my life.

What would you consider the grade on Stone's coin VF30?

If I were PCGS I would grade it Environmental Damage AU details. This thing is really pristine and shows virtually no wear.

That is an amazing find- anytime you find THE key date of any series, it's a lifetime find! My banner vote is in. Congrats!

JACKPOT JACKPOT JACKPOT! A beautiful coin in wonderful dug condition, key to the Lincoln series. Congrats on a superstar dig!

Congrats on the Rare wheaty.

Amazing find and in such great condition after so long in the ground - congrats!

I cleaned up the photos for you. Click on it twice for high resolution.

That is the holy grail slot-filler of the Lincoln cents. And quite fitting that a west coast hunter finds it ! We may not have our fill of LC's, colonial coppers, busts, etc.... Like the east coast guys. But we have a better shot at S mints out here. Congratz !

I rarely read much on the today's finds forums, and have rarely ever voted "banner". But in my opinion, the lore and difficulty to find of an '09 S VDB cent makes this "banner". It got my vote.

That is an awesome coin to find. I strongly suggest you send it in to PCGS to be graded. I am not sure what grade it will receive but it should be in the G-VF range. Might have a "cleaned" or "environmental damage" attribute but still a very valuable coin. Grading will give you the highest value for the coin IMO. I just sold one in MS64 red for nearly $3000
