So I went back to a church (1880-90's) I have hit about five or six times and came up with absolutely nothing every time not even much clad so today I went out after my girlfriend got home for a few hours before dark and found this! Looking it up now not quite sure if this is a key date or just the 1909-s. Any way cool old wheaty!

This was my only find there it's definitely tough pickings there!

All I can say is wow and congrats! I voted Banner because it is almost impossible to find a 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent, the Key to the Keys in the Lincoln Series while metal detecting. It is truly a Banner worthy find!

Wow! Would you trade your penny for a brand new 2017 shinny dime? That's ten cents for one cent. Such a bargain!
Grins...seriously its an awesome find and just goes to show us all that their is always hope. Of course if one was to be found, you are in a prime spot to find one. Congrats!

Dang!

Banner vote from me.

Always a pleasant surprise. To find a rare coin in the Earth. After all, just what better place to look?
Lost when it wasn't rare, just a lil lost penny. :)

Nice one.

Anyone know anything about how to tell counterfeit ones?

Fantastic find! That Wheat Cent is worth a "pretty penny"! :notworthy:

Do not clean it or mess with it in any way...great find! :icon_thumleft:

Wonderful find, wtg....

BANNER!!!! It held up great, though it seems like many early wheaties come up in great shape. Congrats on finding one of the best small cents there is to find!

Stone I look all the time at auctions to buy a 1909-S VDB in good shape for $600 and I'm still looking because it ain't out there. You my friend found one swinging!!! Unbelievable Congratulations on a awesome find!! You have done what when we find a wheatie we don't even pray for anymore, because it's almost impossible and you did it. Lol I'm so happy for you. So you didn't even know what you had till you got home?

I definitely did not know at first! I am super happy and cannot believe it! Keep swinging you never know what you will find! HH

Are you kidding me?!? LOL! You actually found a 1909 S VDB?!? Incredible! You can purchase a new metal detector with that penny! Well done mate. I actually got a 1909 Philadelphia VDB last year and thought I was doing great with that. You are on a ROLL buddy!:headbang:

I definitely been on a roll! I was thinking that last night when I was looking the price of the coin I said to myself geez this is a nice down payment on my new detector I just got!! I was confused because of all the 4 different variations of the 1909-s so I thought I had found a 1909-s boy was I wrong!!! Keep swinging you'll find one 484,000 minted! HH

Now that's a copper that demands a pretty penny! Congrats on the find and what's the plan? keep or sell & sit back enjoy the fruits.

Oh I am a keeper!!! Especially of coins! No selling for me! I will enjoy the fruits of my labor for some years to come and hopefully my children can as well. Still cannot believe I found this! I am so used to finding wheat pennies, never thought it would've been the big daddy! HH

Hey thanks Ammoman! Like I stated before I have been to this church multiple times with no luck the pastor told me that he only knows of it being detected once in 20 years he has been there. Well whoever detective it cleaned the house! I guess it pays off to just go out and practice your swing!! HH
