17 Tons of gold in New Mexico

There is a three ton capacity truck that I believe they used. ( No proof )
I have a picture here somewhere, I will try to find it, and post it.
If I can't find it in my files. I will check on the computer, It should be there.

Does this mean you have come around to the idea that the gold was not bought in by plane?

Bill Burrad. He went on to later fame as an animal guy on TV.

Anyone interested in gold in Mexico (Chihuahua/Sonora) soon realizes that Villa 'treasure sites' are a dime a dozen and readily available to gringos from Mexicans who haven't had the time to go retrieve the loot for themselves. Great sport for the locals, although the old timers who 'rode with Villa' are all gone now. At least these guys found some old whiskey bottles (hmmmm ... behind the bar, no surprise). This was reminiscent of Geraldo's famous Al Capone treasure hunt in Chicago, where a couple gin bottles were recovered. These 'travelling money' caches were actually relatively common during the revolution, but it's the big score (American connection) that is of interest in this thread.

I like to think, that I have an open mind. And, would not rule out possibilities.

Good evening Peerless: that was an interesting show. However, they were on the eastern slope of the sierras where the country is flat and is reminiscent of the central valley of Calif. I loved his description of rough roads, sheesh, even a passenger car can navigate that area, except during the rains, then even lug tires are useless .. It is now covered with miles and miles of fruit orchards, and thousands of ruins hehhe.

The Cerro de La Campana is located in this zone, a starting point for Tayopa. As you go west the country gradually becomes extremely difficult for even a mule. The road to the Tayopa area is considered a good road, but it takes 5 - 6 hrs to go 35 miles. The bad roads??

I agree with Springfield, stories there are a dime a dozen, or free for a few beer..

Don Jose de La Mancha

p.s I enjoyed it

I have been reading about the Four Corners gold and I know for a fact that the gold is no longer there but it is setting in Johnson Mathey in Salt Lake. I know because I was paid to remove it by the United Steel Corporation. Who has the account at Salt Lake. The four corners gold is what got me into the treasure hunting business. I can say this is that it was moved and was not where everyone thought it was.

You beat me to the question Gary. Nick, Where did everyone think it was ?
This gold has been moved around, quite a bit.

It was moved to wild hourse mesa on the Jicarilla Apache Indian reservation and was recovered from there.

Was it moved legally? since you have already claimed that you moved it on behalf of a 3rd party and have even given their name, I would guess this was done with a treasure trove permit?
What weight was the gold and how much did each bar weigh?
How did you transport it and how long did it take to move the entire cache?
Do you have any documents or documentation that prove it was recovered and moved?

Please excuse my scepticism Nick but even you must agree that given the size of the caches that you have located, I do not believe anyone like you has existed since the victorians entered Egypt and unearthed many of the tombs there.

First I did not get a permit to remove it United Steel Corporation took care of that. I was taken to the site by an Indian friend of my and I did not even know that it was the four corners gold or the 17 tons until a couple of years later. All paperwork was turned over to United Steel Corporation in fact I am still waiting to get paid. They were waiting for the gold to go up. A group of Attorneys in New York were the ones that arranged the deal with the United Steel Corporation. Since then I have learned a little about the law and how to structure my own contracts. A lot of people know that I am the one that took it out but to what people believe I really don't care. I have been at this a while now and have been very lucky, and I try to work within the law to get it done. Not everyone can afford the equipment that I use to find this stuff after all this is a business.

Sorry to hear you never got paid Nick, but you just can not trust some people ha?
I take it you never moved the cache recently and so I would guess that given that gold hit an all time high a little while back that would have been the best time to sell. Sure hope you are chasing them up for your payment.

What year did you move it?

Gary

1990. Right now I have my hands full with the Tesoro project. There are somethings happening with that one that I can not talk about.

Yes I have visited your site a few times, personally I find it outrageous that you could find a cache of such proportions and not be allowed to recover it.
However I would certainly not want you to talk about the tesoro project here, but by all means any elaboration you can give on the "4 corners" "17 tons" cache recovery/removal would be interesting and would certainly enhance this thread.

Nick, Did you have a written contract with United Steel Corporation. That's a large amount of gold to move.
As you said, this is a business. Your contract will be your ticket to getting paid for transporting the gold.

Ah, good research can be sooooo time consuming! When I run into strange names, sometimes I find it helpful to throw them into an anagram program and see what pops-up. I have found on more than one occasion that some names of non-existing people can be clues- either to throw you off track, or point you in the right direction. For example: The letters in "Leon Trabuco" can be rearranged:

Barn Loot Cue - (Should we look in a barn?)

Loco Bar Tune - (Should I look for words to a bar song?)

Blue Can Root - (Was a blue can jammed in a tree root as a marker?)

Obviously, some names will yield hundreds (if not thousands) of combinations. You still have to look thru all the combinations to see what makes sense to you. This is just another stone (so to speak) to be turned over in your hunt for treasure!

Yes Bob or how about initials? Don Leon Trabuco / Don Luis Terrazas

And the other "businessmen" working with the group had initials CS, RB, RA
could it be that they used Carlos Sepulveda, Rafeal Borrega and Ricardo Artega to disguise these names to?

We had trucks that looked like oilfield trucks that had false bottoms and the trucks left loaded to Salt Lake City every other day. The truck were met at the gate by the Fed's and receipts were given on each truck. A total of 18 tons was moved over a months time. It was kind, a slick we had high tension steel cable that the bars slid down to the trucks, the truck all had government plates on them.
