12 INCH TROMMEL BUILD

Dry trommel . I'm thinking of building a 12 inch 1/4 screen , 24" dryer using pro pain with fair side knock bars , 24inch 1/4 " screen in conjunction sense most I find is nothing bigger then 1/6 inch . I already built a vibrating feeding hopper on my 8 inch trommel .

AZ, sorry to hear that your brother had to be transported back. Maybe a few more days of rest and he can make the trip home. Prayers

Haven't had a chance to watch the flow vids yet maybe tonight. Can't view the pix on my phone either but I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.

He's back home and has started rehab. Feeding tube has been removed and on the road to recovery. Started speech therapy and will be outfitted with a Bluetooth devices that will allow him the talk through his iPhone. He will continue to make weekly trips to Scottsdale for check ups. Swelling is down 40% from the surgery.

Cool beans Keith. Great news.

Glad to hear brothers doing better. Hope he keeps improving, just like your trommel.

For those who are following this thread that have a trommel, building a trommel, who plan to build a trommel or anyone who once to voice their opinion. Like your opinion on the 1/8 rounds as I have them currently placed. The idea is to help slow the slurry flow while giving more areas within the trommel for rocks / clay balls to fall on and break up while receiving a good bath from 101 spray nozzles from the spray bar. In all there would be 16 of these 1/8 rounds welded inside. I could cut this number down to 12 or 8. Click on photos to enlarge[/QUOTEi
I put my fins in so they made the dirt try to run uphill. I think mine was a 10". I'll try to find some pics of the inside.

Hi Jay,

Nice setup... I have been dreading building the hopper box. I had a buddy that had a sheet metal shop and had planned to use his shop to make me the hopper but his ex put a stop to those plans. Now I am stuck building a tube frame and plasma cutting the 14 gauge metal and welding the hopper together. I am having shoulder replacement surgery on the 18th and not going to get the trommel completed for a while. Just finished up my sluice box. Excuse the mess in the woodshop. Metalwork and Woodwork do not mix. I build poker tables in my free (LOL) time... Keith

trommel is impressive but for me ! I'm in the desert , I use mine mostly for a faster classifier and feed a dry washer . I packed water in and set up a system to keep recycling the water . I ran 2 hours at 40 gallons 110 out and figured it was way to much for one person to do . I spent more time working with the water system then prospecting . So I modified the trommel and it has moved a lot of dirt for me now , most of the time it's hard to keep up to the trommel and dry washer . For me it works very well . As I'm sure yours will work good in your situation . Looks good .

Can't get any closer to the desert than living in Tucson, Arizona as I do. The trommel will be worked by 3 people. Two diggers and 1 person maintaining the trommel / sluice. I have a drywasher but the area I am working its not of any use.

desert yes it is . And sounds like you have a crew . That's nice I dint have such luck . Note nought value where I go .

No... I am thinking on the lines of the side's and back slating inward and the bottom slating towards the trommel so the dirt and rock are flowing into the trommel. Would have sprayers on three sides sprayer towards the trommel. The sides would be about 6" with the top of the hopper maybe 24" x 24". Big enough to handle a 5 gallon bucket or more. Drawing 3D is not in my skills...

Update: Yea kinda like your hopper. Did not look real close.

I made this hopper a few years ago and have never used it. The inside screen is removable so you could put any size screen in there you want. It's just about the dimensions you described and has holes for a spray bar on 3 sides. It's similar to a typical hi-banker hopper. That's what I copied. Anyway, if you want to try to make it work I'm willing to donate it to your cause. If not, it will sit here for a few more years.

Wow Jay that would be great. I will take it off of your hands. Getting it would be another issue unless you could ship it down to Tucson and I would be more than glad to pay all freight. With surgery next week I will not be able to drive up.

Send me an address, I'll get it in the mail before you get healed enough to drive. I'll keep an eye out for a box big enough.

That's awesome
That was very nice of Jay to offer the hopper. I also got to say kudos to GarrettDiggingAz. Garrett is bringing me the hopper. He's driving from Phoenix to Tucson and dropping the hopper off. Got to say we have a great bunch of prospectors/miners who help each other.
