Guys, I found this yesterday at an old homesite. I've never seen one before in person. I have seen one with a faint m/m, but this one has absolutely no sign even under magnification. The pics are the best I can do and really doesn't do the coin justice. Any suggestions on how to clean the dirt off would be welcomed. The coin has a very good rim and no pitting or damage. It does have a green patina that I would like to keep. BTW no oil or anything put on coin yet. Thanks for looking. swingin

Guys hope you can tell now that there is no mintmark. I don't really want to clean the coin, just get the dirt off safely. Or do I just leave as is for now. Thanks Swingin
as was suggested earlier, soaking in Olive oil is the only safe way to remove dirt only. it is safe to do that. overnight should be long enough, then use a very light bristle toothbrush, and gently rub the loose dirt off, then rinse with just water. WAY TO GO!
Jim.

Thanks guys, I'd like to know for sure if it is authenic also. I live out in the sticks about 40 minutes from Charlotte and don't have a clue where to take it. I really don't want to send it off. Maybe someone can chime in that lives near me with some suggestions of a reputable dealer. Swingin

I've sent coins worth thousands of $'s out to ANACS, PCGS, Stacks, and private people, without concern or issue. Safest is USPS, registered insured. Everyone that handles the package has to sign for it. The US postal service is the what I recommend. Just insure it for 1,000. ANACS will cost you about $30-35 plus shipping, but at least it will be certified, to whether or not it's authentic. "Ya gotta break it...to make it". :laughing7:

Given the rarity of the coin, and the fact that I've never seen one pop up here before, I'll vote BANNER!

One of my business partners has a penny collection, and he always talked about the 1922 plain being the one he needed to complete his collection. Over the years I always asked him if he ever got his 1922 plain. Back then, it booked for about $400. Looks like it has doubled in value since then, and I'm sure he's kicking himself for never picking one up.

I agree with Hogge--send this one in for authentication. Killer find, and yes it is a BANNER find!

:hello2:

Congratulations on your truly rare find!

First let me say that I am not an expert on 22 no D's but have been a collector for as long as I can remember.

It appears that you have found the "real deal" here.

Things to look for are a weaker first 2 in the date, along with the missing mintmark and....which you have. And......

A stronger TRUST and weaker IN GOD WE....which is evident in yours.

I would send it to ANACS for authentication and encapsulation.

Congratulations.

I think I found a 22 no D about 3 weeks ago. I sent it in to ANACS for authentication and should know by the end of the week if it is a 22 no D. The one that I found has a super weak second 2 and no D

wtg :icon_thumright: she's beautiful I have yet to find one let alone a rare one

Thanks terpfan, I'm using a 10.1 mega pixel camera in the closeup mode and that is still the best I can do. Any suggestions and I will try to get some better pics. Thanks again. swingin
Try putting a 5 or 10x loop over the camera lens This works great for me. NICE FIND!!!!!
