Guys, I found this yesterday at an old homesite. I've never seen one before in person. I have seen one with a faint m/m, but this one has absolutely no sign even under magnification. The pics are the best I can do and really doesn't do the coin justice. Any suggestions on how to clean the dirt off would be welcomed. The coin has a very good rim and no pitting or damage. It does have a green patina that I would like to keep. BTW no oil or anything put on coin yet. Thanks for looking. swingin

For wheats and Injuns, I lay them in a shallow bowl and soak in olive oil. Then wipe them off with a soft cloth. If you leave them soak over night, it will loosten any coaked on dirt and mud, but leave the patina.

Nice wheatie, but what's m/m? :dontknow:

As far as cleaning it, don't, you already know what it is. Cleaning it will only devalue it.

can't tell very well but I think you have a 1922 missing D strong reverse in my coinvalues mag it books at 850.00 in G4 (good) state.. if your not sure what that means..it means g4 is 2nd to lowest (Worst) grade only a AG3 is worse (about good) so the least it can be worth is 850.00..if it is a strong reverse an not the weak strike variety

Excellent find - I would not do any cleaning on it. Congrats, can't remember one of these being found.

I'm in the dark here. What's no m/m. Does it mean no mint mark? If so, this is a great find.

No Mint Mark they we're only suppose to have made 1922 D pennies for that year, but there was some error coins released some with weak mint mark some without mint mark at all!!

Excellent find, would love a closeup. Only known one person that has dug one, he is no longer on my Christmas Card List. :icon_thumleft:

As I said, that being the case, this is a GREAT find.

Congrats on a very nice rare coin.

Please take some better pics to post. I would like to see this up close.

Thanks creeper for explaining it to the board. AS you know the reason I didn't list it as a 22p,is that to most people would mean a philly mint coin. But we both know they didn't make any wheaties that year. Not the faintest sign of a mintmark on this coin, will try another camera tom. for some better pics.

Looking forwar to the better pics. I didn't know this coin existed. :)

Hi swingin,

Awesome find  If you would like I could crop one of the pictures to make the coin larger? You will see the coin better but it may take away some detail.

Wow, you've found a special coin there. As children, my brothers and I collected Lincoln cents, and the 1922 "plain" was the one coin we knew we'd never own--it was way out of our league. We were just thrilled to see one in person (if only behind glass) at a coin show. If you can get a better photograph, you certainly have a banner-quality find there. Congratulations!

Thanks terpfan, I'm using a 10.1 mega pixel camera in the closeup mode and that is still the best I can do. Any suggestions and I will try to get some better pics. Thanks again. swingin

10.1 mp should give you very clear pics. Are you using the macro mode (with the flower icon)?
If you're resizing the pics, try resizing them a little larger.

Re: WOW!! 1922 no m/m wheatie--added new pics

Guys hope you can tell now that there is no mintmark. I don't really want to clean the coin, just get the dirt off safely. Or do I just leave as is for now. Thanks Swingin

What is that mark on the second 2? Dirt? If this turns out to be what we all want it to be then that is a Banner find in my book. Congrats and keep us informed on this rarity. jgas

At first glance I would say a BANNER FIND. BUT.....with the second better pic, there are some questions to be asked. The second 2 is somewhat different. It's looks like the date could have been altered. I would take it to a coin dealer or expert, or even submit it for grading. This would certify as to authenticity.
