You made some interesting observations.
Strangely, I think society is not that cold, it's just disconnected. No, most folks won't start shooting, they'll call the police and then complain about the response time.
I think the replies to this post demonstrate the feelings of people that would want to do more than call the police. I'm not sure how to to describe it. Maybe we're the people who still say hello to new neighbors. That do not yak on their cellphone and ignore the grocery cashier.
Whatever. I'm rambling on. This thread has got me thinking as well.
