Whites New Detector... Vision

Re: White's New Detector... Vision

Hi,

Regarding coils, this from Carl:

"Loops: Vision uses DFX loops that are calibrated to a higher standard. Older loops will usually work... no guarantee, but I haven't seen one that wouldn't work. I have even used an Excellerator and an SEF coil on my unit. I haven't used a Sunray probe but I'd guess it works... someone send me one & I'll test it! However, non-optimized coils probably will overload when TX Boost is turned on, so you won't be able to use this feature. I think I've seen one non-opt coil that overloaded at very high preamp settings. Right now, White's has the 10"DD, 950, and 300 coils optimized for Vision. We will soon have all DFX coils brought up to Vision standards."

I'm blown away by the feature set on this unit. My favorite? Programmable tones! Any VDI number can be assigned any tone. You want a 2 tone or 4 tone or 12 tone machine. whatever you want, you can set it up, and you can chose the tones yourself. And with 22.5 kHz, manual ground balance, and transmit boost I can tell you right now I'll finding gold with this puppy.

Triple frequency live color sine-wave target analyze with size function? I think metal detecting just entered the 21st century. Some people are going to not like my posts as it will seem like I'm hyping this machine but the fact is I'm a detector geek and they should have just called this thing "Geeks Dream".

I can't wait to get my hands on one!

Steve,

Thanks for the info. Where did you hear this though, because the field guide is not exactly clear on this. If this is true, that's going to be pretty neat.

Also, where is the Official White's Forum? I heard that's where Carl posted that info that you quoted.

Re: White's New Detector... Vision

Yes sir this detector might just be what i need to get me back whole hearted in detecting. the detectors even the top end ones anymore are the same as the ones i have been useing for 27 years . Nothing new just gimmicks. This might be what i am looking for..............

Hi Brett,

Info is as per Carl at http://forum.treasurenet.com/whites/index.php/topic,28835.0.html WAY DOWN the page.

"It is fully customizable... for each VDI number you can assign one or two icons and any tone. Icons can include custom text."

You caused quite a stir at the factory with your post.

Steve Herschbach

Thanks Steve, and I'm FINDing a lot of info at the MALL too in their dedicated Vision forum.

Sorry about the STIR, as far as I knew I had permission all the way back to White's. Everyone seems to be playing nice now so all is well.

Re: White's New Detector... Vision

I have owned quite a few White's machines and liked them all. Now it appears White's just might have a real goodie on their hands. However, the way our economy is going and the price of it will probably keep it out of my hands for a long time. Too bad for me.

Re: White's New Detector... Vision

Suppose to come out around March 21'st to the beginning of April. Final tweakings before full production.

They're saying MSRP $1699.99. http://whiteselectronics.com/dealervision.html.

This is a toughie decision..... :icon_scratch: That's a lot of cabbage. But I can imagine the performance.

Re: White's New Detector... Vision

Hi,

It is also available without the wireless headphones for $1499.95. The unit has a standard headphone jack for you can save a $200 bucks if you use your own headphones. But if you want the wireless headphones later they are $249.95 so you save $50 getting them with the detector.

I'm having fun playing with my new Vision. I wish the snow would hurry up and melt!

I thought some might like to see the video..................

It certainly looks like it could have major possibilities....................

Re: White's New Detector... Vision

You probably know this, but it is on Whites website now (http://whiteselectronics.com). The site plays an animation about the Vision when you get there. If you click on the Vision on the home page, you get the feature list...and if you click on the detector's screen in the pic you can see the different screens.

Quite pricey, but I'd love to try one out.

I am going to keep eye on the user reviews.....If they come back that impressive then I might have to sell some items.

That is Awesome. My favorite part was where he said you never have to dig anymore pulltabs again! But yeah that's pretty pricey.

Re: White's New Detector... Vision

Howdy Folks,

I am impressed! Fantastic display, all types of hunting modes, tones, etc. etc. bla bla bla . . .:tongue3: In the past couple of years there has been many detector manuf's. out there unveiling their new machines from of course Whites, Technetics, Bounty Hunter, Minelab and Fisher. But wait we forgot someone? You know who I'm talking about. They've been lapped and left in the dust in those few years. Their technology is from '97. I'm not knocking them though, but they need something new :icon_sunny: for the detectorist/consumer :-\ .

I still use my GTI 2500 for general hunting, Master Hunter 7 ADS, I am getting use to my Pro XL in those trashy areas and still swing the 6000/D ser. 2

Again, the new White's Vision looks a winner and I'll be testing it at my White's dealers as soon as it comes in.

The DFX can do the same with pulltabs, but you have to go through the menus to discriminate VDIs instead of the "on-the-fly" adjustment the Vision has. You will still be digging pulltabs with the Vision...pulltabs at different angles, bent pulltabs and broken pulltabs come up all over the range where gold rings are found. There is no escape.

The one thing I saw that could prove new and usefull is the signal strength by frequency, although I'm pretty sure that even that won't help differentiate pulltabs from gold. The added depth (20% over DFX) is also nice.

I don't think I could justify getting one considering I have a new E-Trac, but might score one down the road. I still use my DFX all the time for certain environments.

I wonder if the Sunray DX-1 works on the Vision? I would assume so.

BTW - I called KellyCo and they don't have them yet, but plan on selling them for full retail...$1700. It's nice, but not that nice. Definitely going to wait a while.

Re: White's New Detector... Vision

Hi All,

Been out using the Vision. Just a couple notes.

When in the search screen (the bar graph) you get a hit in all three frequencies. They fade in order - weakest first, middling second, and strongest last. So you can tell which frquency is hitting hardest.

When you go to pinpoint this gets backed up. The signal strength bars, each indicating which frequency is hitting hardest.

Analyze gives similar frequency indications plus sizing.

You are getting more target info at a glance then ever before. Two different items can give you the same VDI numbers. A beer bottle cap can sound like a coin and give a similar VDI. But the coin will hit harder in 2.5 kHz, and the bottle cap in 22.5 kHz. Same deal with the deep nail that sounds like a coin. The coin will hit harder at the lower frequencies, the nail at the higher.

I was hunting snow dumps with the Vision, and there were lots of pop cans in the snow piles. I'm hunting smaller targets (hopefully gold but usually aluminum) and the deep cans sound just like the smaller shallower items I am after. But the sizing function nailed them dead on as over-sized, even at depth.

I think the ability to see in real time the exact response in three different frequencies is going to be the Vision's ace in the hole. The jury is out on the depth thing but in my opinion this is the finest discrimination system yet devised for a metal detector.

Do remember that no system is perfect. Signals will degrade with depth and the amount of ground mineralization. How fast you sweep the target and how centered you are will have an effect. You do have to "work" the target just like with any other detector.

But I do see now why they called it the Vision. It's an eye-opener for sure.

Re: White's New Detector... Vision

The geek in me would love one of these. However this economy and the price are going to keep it out of my hands. I really like a lot of the features, especially the blue tooth head phones.

Re: White's New Detector... Vision

Hi,

The headphones are not Bluetooth as BT introduced to much audio lag time. It is a proprietary system. I have to say the phones feel and sound great.
