Diamond you may actually have something and I wish you well. Maps do exist. But just my option coming in here saying I have a Treasure Map is like going to a drug den saying I know where some drugs are hidden.Discretion would be my advice along with the word Google.

Boy, I just don't know about this. My first inclination is that I think I smell a rat. A rather shiny one at that. But, then again, maybe not. There's just no tell'n without no'n.

Okay, I know a lot of you think this is a joke and I don't care. I have no skills or know how in treasure hunting and no equipment. So I see this as an opportunity. I realize that there are no guarantees. The painting was given to my father in law by the owner. My father in law took care of him and his wife for many years. I have asked myself all of the same questions that you have asked. I don't know specifically who sealed it. Maybe he stood by as it was being done. Back then you didn't have to leave your stuff and pick it up a week later. So.....who knows. But if you are a treasure hunter isn't that what it is all about? But you are right why am I trusting a bunch of strangers? Although, when it comes to money or treasure its amazing how fast family and friends can become strangers! But I'm not trying to reel anybody in and I am not a "he". Like I said just thought I would go to the professionals with the opportunity that could benefit both of us. Thanks anyway.
I have seen numerous threads go haywire whenever someone mentions a treasure map. You have your skeptics, dreamers, glass-half-empty/full people etc come out of the woodwork. I would like to think that we all share a common goal regardless, which is helping each other and passing along knowledge. Most of these guys are trying to help out so take the summation of all the comments and figure out your next move.

I for one say to for it! It seems to add up and what an adventure!!!

Good luck bud

You are right...I don't know what I was thinking. I thought maybe I would find a professional wanting and knowing how to do things legally and honestly to benefit all. OOOPS! I will give up that idea!
Anyway I'll give the map to my brother in law and let him do it. Not that he would be any more trustworthy than a stranger when it comes to money.
Thanks for the honest and true opinion.

If you have what looks like a legitimate map to some burred treasure or hoard, I'm sure there is someone on this forum that lives in your area who would be willing to give up and afternoon to help you find it. Who wouldn't want access to a new area?

If your going to hand it over to your brother in law at lest draw up an agreement between you of how it will be divided, to protect yourself.

Interesting story and find! While that it is quite possible that the framer of the painting and sealed the back, actually copied the treasure map, found it and it is long gone, there is always hope that they did not. If the location is not very far from me, I would be interested and have a fairly large assortment of metal detectors for almost any condition. While I know that it is hard to find someone you can truly trust, just look at my' signature line below my posts and you decide.

I have a very detailed book on factual treasure stories and have read many accounts of people finding treasure by following maps. My favorite story was one about actual buried pirate treasure. Back in 1717 and 1718 the notorious pirate Blackbeard was busy building up his fleet and using it to plunder merchant ships along the American East coast. The loot from these merchant ships was divided evenly among Blackbeard's crew. Many of these crewmen left Blackbeard's service in June of 1718 when they were granted pardons from North Carolina Governor Charles Eden.

One of these low ranking pirate crewmen took his loot north to New England where he had a girlfriend. Not wanting his pirate past or his wealth to be known he buried the majority of his treasure by a landmark near a river in Connecticut - drawing a detailed map to the location. Unfortunately the ex-pirate was eventually betrayed by his girlfriend and he was arrested. The girlfriend found the treasure map of her ex-pirate-boyfriend and gave it to her brother who pledged to find the loot once he gathered the funds to mount a search. Unfortunately the brother died before he could mount a search. For about one hundred years the map past through many hands until it wound up in the possession of a young man who believed the treasure map to be authentic. He kept the map for his entire life but never had the time to look for the treasure. Eventually the man's grandson got hold of the map and in 1899 he set off on a quest to find the treasure. By 1900 - nearly 200 years after the map's creation, the treasure was found. The man followed the map and located the treasure under about 3 feet of dirt near the river in Connecticut exactly where the map said it would be. In a crusty old wooden chest the treasure hunter found heaps of 17th century gold coins and massive gold and emerald cross on a solid gold chain. All this from following an old map that he took a chance on believing was real.

for starters go to google earth and look at the sat photos of the area, next go to a site that will give you aerial photos of the present and past., contact me if you want the link for one.
do some research on the paper, like type and where it was made, look at the ink under a magnifier glass, that will tell you a lot. 90% of the research can be none on the net by yourself. If you are physically handicap you may need a partner to help recover the treasure if it is still there.
Good luck, I hope you are able to find it.
The real adventure is in the looking.

I have a map that I discovered on the back of a painting that was completely sealed (until I tore a hole in it) I would like to know how to get it verified. If it is legitimate then I would need someone to go find it.
It was sealed up over 50 years ago. It is not a copy. Any suggestions?
if you will have this now and why don't you just go out and check it out for yourself but you don't you never know take the map go wherever it is and see what is there no excuses no explanations I'm almost 70 years old and I'm going in the worst Swamp in the area this year treasure hunting alone and people say I'm too old and everything else go look for it because there's not a person who you can really trust in this world except yourself go find treasure do yourself a favor ok best of luck to you ask God to protect you sincerely Harvest

Yes. You got some sarcastic replies. I was a bit snarky myself. However, I followed those comments up with what I believed to be helpful comments.

One big red flag for me is that you only focused on the negative comments. That isn't what people seeking honest help usually do.

Since you have a Brother-In-Law that you are going to trust now, after posting to this site looking for the help of total strangers, I don't understand why you didn't do that in the first place.

This whole thread is still giving me bad vibes. But having said that, since you have an able-bodied Brother-In-Law, hammer out the specifics of the disbursement of any possible finds in writing prior to allowing him access to the map.

I assume we are done here. Good luck.

Why don't you at least tell us what state this treasure is in?

A better post would have been in the forum of the state its in asking for hunters familiar with X area that are experienced woodsmen and interview from there.

The I have a treasure map can someone go get the treasure approach is folly, real or not.

She started threads about this map in three forums. She posted here, she posted in the New Members, forum, and in the New Mexico forum which is presumably where this possible treasure is hidden.

She didn't get much action in the New Mexico forum, but if I recall correctly, she didn't get any negative responses either.

Every response in the New Members forum was positive and on March 7th she promised to post more details but never did. That's another reason for my concerns. Why come to this thread to chastise the nay-sayers? Go to the thread with the friendly responses and cultivate a relationship there.

Why wouldn't you ?

Besides some of you may have driven her away :( Which is a bannable offense
if we decide to follow up with it by the way.

She posted in the 3 best places. the Maps section could have been a 4th.
if she had a desire to.

Seriously?? This whole post was really sketchy. No information on where. And just flat out sketchy. Now you're saying some people can be banned for making some jokes about a post that seems like a joke in itself? Wow!

If this person wanted help she could have at least said the state that this 'supposed' map is referring to. 5 Pages now and has anyone even seen a pic of this map?

she posted in the New Mexico forum Doubter in MD already said that.

she didn't post there by mistake. a little research instead of innuendo would have answered that.
Perhaps she felt backed against the wall here & unwelcome :dontknow:
why would anyone share at that Point ???

& Yes Moderators have full capability & rights to remove anyone

No disrespect intended. I didn't imply she did anything wrong by posting in multiple forums. Quite the contrary. I know that this practice is encouraged on this site. I had to read all three threads to glean that the map is in New Mexico. And that the site is near housing developments. And that she got the painting from her Father-In-Law.

I merely pointed out that she chose to come to this thread and berate the skeptics. She certainly got much more positive responses in the other two threads but chose to abandon them.

In any case she chose to get help from her family. Provided she takes the advice given about hammering out an agreement in writing prior to revealing the location of the possible cache, I think we can agree that this option is probably better than seeking out the help of total strangers.
