Well, many things you read or hear is not true. Stories have been told so many times it's believed to be fact, when it isn't.
And the show "Moonshiners" is more than a little off-center! I think it would surprise many about the quality of liquor that's made in the Southern Appalachians and in no way is it limited to corn whiskey.

You can make shine off of anything if you wish. You can make it off sweet feed or molasses, peaches, chicken scratch the list is endless. Oh yeah blackberries is interesting they say. The show "Moonshiners" is a disastrous joke. These are things I just heard but then we sing Rocky Top down here so go figure.

Yes, you can make liquor from many things... but the key word is "quality"! One good rule of thumb is to never drink liquor unless you know the source and how it's made because without a tax stamp and label you won't really know. The best "rum" I've ever had didn't come from the Caribbean, it was made in Tennessee. But it couldn't be legally called rum, because it was made with sorghum cane and not sugar cane. The same with Cognac, but it wasn't made from the grapes of Cognac, France. It was made from Muscadines and Scuppernongs... so much for a legal name... legal!?:laughing7:
