What was your FIRST metal detector?

A Compass 77B that I bought used at a swap meet in 1973 w/ a hard case and extra 3" coil for $50. Has these battery packs that hold 4 AA batteries. They stretched out and wouldn't hold batt's anymore. Radio Shack had them in stock and it still works great. My 8 year old Great Niece was using it recently and found half a rusted staple at a couple of inches deep. I was pretty impressed by that. Still got the manual and a sales pamphlet that shows someones finds, lots of peace sign jewelry. It beeps you dig, kind of miss the suspense of not having any idea of what's about to resurface.

My first ever was a Radio Shack Archer Kit I received as a gift around 1975. It gave out a low "hum" that changed to a higher pitch when it went over metal. This unit ended up finding my old cub scout knife I lost in the woods..I was ecstatic this machine was able to find it after being lost for 2 years.

Whites 1DB back in the 80's.(birthday gift) When i found out I liked metal detecting I bought a whites 6000 DI. Used that for a year or two and then stopped. just picked up the hobby again last year. I love it. Best hobby in the world.

My first det. was similar to DFX Greg's, a whites 6000d. I found lots of good stuff with it in the early 80's in the older parts of Tampa. I finally had to junk it as of a year ago because the circuit board was too corroded to be repaired. Still like Whites because of my good experience with the 6000D. Good luck to all.

Bought a slightly used D-Tex Pro for $100 in 1968. BFO detector...dug everything...found coins to 4". Never forgot the fun it was,and bought my second detector about six years ago. Then the third and fourth one......Have a Nautilus 11Ba now and love it!

Had a Whites Eagle II back in 1994, bought it used for $250.00, found alot of stuff with it. kind of wish i still had that machine

The year was 1967. I bought A BFO kit and my wife and I worked for hours soldering it together. I worked! Went a couple of inches deep and it hooked us on metal detecting.

Everyone has a first metal detector. Mine was a BFO that I can't remember the name, but my second one was a C&G Bobcat, a TR type.
