I don't know much about early rifles, but I think this is a pretty high end one for the time, you see the double triggers, that small one in the front is a hair trigger, that trigger requires almost no force to initiate the percussion cap. I could be wrong but it also looks like this may have been a flint lock rifle and was converted to percussion cap later on.

It was passed down from my grandfather to me. It's a long story. I finally got it though. It came from northern Georgia. One family member appears to have tried to restore it some. My aunt has it now but I'm going to try to go get it next week. I think it would make a great display piece . I do k ow the barrel is 5 or 6 sided
Looks close to a ky long rifle

Maybe biased because I’m building one but maybe Lehman/lancaster rifle, I have a book somewhere that looks similar and has the percussion lock vs the flintlock in the picture,

One I’m building is from 1830 ish… not sure when percussion became common but maybe yours is from somewhere a little later, 1840?-1860? That’s just a guess though

Reminds me of a Plains/Hawkins Rifle.

The hammer is back way to far, so guessing it's loose.

That is a great artifact to possess! Cool!

It is a cap and ball type. It uses a percussion cap. My guess would be after 1807 I think that is when the Cap was invented
