Hi everyone,
Please help us in identifying this little statue we found on a remote beach in Hilton Head Island, SC. We were just digging in some wet clay, sand, when we unearthed this little girl figurine. It is about 3 inches tall and 2 inches wide and made out of either some kind of stone or clay. The only identifying marks on it are the carved out body parts. We also found an idian arrowhead on this same very beach a year ago, but we don't know if this statue is also an indian artifact or not. Please help us in identifying this statue and and help us try to figure out what time period it came from.
Thank you,
Nick and Anna

~ South Carolina, Stone, Voodoo Doll ~

Sounds good to me. Especially the bug-eyes, which appeared often when I went back and searched voodoo dolls in particular. Like the one shown below that emphasizes "large facial features." I'm wondering if something like the one in question can be dated? Are we talking 1700s or 1900s? If it were ever to be appraised for value, I think it's age would be a significant factor. (Just curious). :icon_scratch:

BENIN/TOGO HALF-FIGURE VOODOO DOLL. 20th century. Wood with white natural pigments and earthen patina. The upper torso of a female (?) with hands to abdomen, large facial features, domed head lacking patina (it once had a cap). {13 x 4 3/4 x 5 inches.}

I collect Indian relics my thoughts are African in nature(first instinct). It Is common practice to have objects like this too bring about new life as a female symbol. You never see male figures other than fallis symbols. The projectile is Archaic culture which predates pottery time period in the South Eastern united States.

I'm with kuger, if that point isn't moss agate, then I either don't know a thing about eastern rocks or I have to give up rock hunting while I am detecting. I find too much moss agate on the prairies out here. Ok, I don't know a thing about eastern rocks.

Not to slam your find but......my first thought was it was made by stoned hippy back in the 60's. But what do I know? Like the arrowhead.
