Welcome to the site! Please post an introduction thread.

Hey Y'all! Im Amy, an NY'er transplanted in Auburn for a few years. I just got my 1st MD (Tesoro Compadre) thanks to the recommendations here.

Hello All:

Sorry for my long winded post but I've been following this site for about 2 months and have had plenty of time to digest its content and comments. Also, by way of this post, gives me an opportunity to introduce myself to the forum.
I enjoy reliving the poster's excitement as they tell the backstory of their find, and then about the find itself (or the occasional disappointment when things head south).
Mostly I find myself daydreaming about posts yet to come cool finds yet to come.
Last comment about this site; I am inspired by the number of contributors who seem as interested in an item's extrinsic as they are of it's intrinsic one and their commitment to the treasure hunter's code of ethics. (That's not to say I'm above wishing to discover some item that would pay for my kids' education and to what degree I'd be willing to push my ethically boundaries to get it).

Here's my story - living in Atlanta for 20 years gave me an appreciation for all things Civil War. The day after purchasing my md I headed to a residential area near the route the North used to march on Atlanta. After 30 minutes my detector started beeping so I started digging. Few minutes later I pulled out a federal belt buckle and a small round ball (grape shot? Miniball??). Since that one find I haven't found anything more than newish nickels, dimes...junk metal. The memory of how it felt after the initial find still motivates me after 15 yrs.

Sorry about that. I hit the send button before I finished editing my comments. I HATE WHEN I DO THAT!
To finish my intro: there was a period about 15 years ago where I md for a few months. I lived in Atlanta and fell in love with its Civil War history. Though I was born and raised in the north I found myself drawn to the stories of the foot soldier of the south - (not their beliefs but their individual stories of struggle and loss). Even though I made a few great finds my focus shifted to things in my personal life.
Fast forward 20 years - I moved to NJ. My family has made a yearly tradition of going to the Jersey Shore (yes that shore) for a week mid-summer when, once again, I caught fever.
I have a cheap md (Bounty Hunter IV) which I bought way before visiting this site. So far I haven't found anything exciting but through this site have learned it's location, location, location. However, for me, nothing compares to the feeling I get when I see the excitement in my child's eye when she finds that "ancient" 2001 penny from a pirate's booty (but check back with me when I find that first gold coin 😉 ).

Hello fellow treasure hunters,im new to this site but not new to detecting.I reside in panama city florida and hunt in my free time,im very excited to be a part of this community =D

Hi I'm kinda new here have already posted but hadn't introduced myself. I'm in California and just recently started gold panning.

How does everyone feel about the gpaa? I was thinking about joining so that I have access to their claims. But i hear that the claims are all used up and dug up. Not worth going to them.

This past weekend i met people who started another association with the intent of protecting our rights, so they have opened up their claims to be explored. As a newbie i see this as the easiest way to have a chance at finding gold with out having to, only use public lands and or figuring out if it is claimed already. Thoughts on this?

Thanks

I am in southern Indiana and just getting back into this awesome hobby. I'm in a similar boat as Padre, with my old Sovereign having been held hostage. LOL I am not so patiently waiting for Bart to get my quote so I can get an AT Pro heading east. Any members in the vicinity message me and maybe we can get together and find some goodies.

Hello and welcome to all of the new members! We are happy to have ya with us and happy hunting!

Hi guys and gals,

Living in extreme northern Wisconsin. Don't have a lot of experience metal detecting, other than as a kid and that was awhile ago. Currently using a Garrett AT Pro.

Glad to be here!

Heya! From Vancouver Island Canada, my wife, son and I just got into detecting......love it! Bought a Teknetics Delta 4000 first then jumped at a Whites Beach 300. Cant wait to get it!

Hi Guys...Newbie here from Kelowna BC Canada.......Hoping to find other MD enthusiasts and maybe a club in my area ?

Hi everyone. New member here from central Maryland. Interested in metal detecting, although I don't have my own detector just yet. I had one when I was a kid; only used it a few times and didn't go past my own yard. Hoping my second go-round with md-ing last longer now that I'm much older and have more patience (I hope). Primarily interested in md-ing yards, tot lots, schools, along walking paths, and in the woods.

I also collect coins.

Hello all! I just started colleting coins and I am from east Texas.

I am Patrick from South Western NJ, across from Philly Int'l Airport. I travel around my area just kind of learning my detectors. I have a White's Coinmaster that I have been out with 5 or 6 times. I just got a Coinmaster GT & I will be taking out this weekend so my friend & I can cover more ground. No big hits so far but it is fun to try and figure out what metal parts could have been attached to.

We have planned some adventures and will be stopping in here for info, tips and spot ideas to hunt. Very informative site :)

G'morning my new friends. As much as I would like personally to welcome each of you , there are just too many, almost 50 today alone. However if I can be of any help just post me .
