Welcome to the site! Please post an introduction thread.

Hello. My name is Tom Lynch. I have been metal detecting since I was 13 years old. My first "real" detector was a Whites Coin Master. (For the old timers, it was the blue metal box w/ the white coil). I have detected for many years on my own and with my old hunting buddy, Gordon. He passed away back in 2006 and I had lost my spirit to detect. Sadly, I put the detector away for almost seven years. Glad to say that thanks to my brother in law, I will be going on my first hunt of an old New England Grist Mill after a long time away from it. I went out today on my own property here in New Hampshire and went to the old dirt pile and dug out an old colonial button. I am happily hooked once again. I found you by googling images of the button and some member posts came up. I look forward to chatting with you all and reading your posts. Thanks for having me! Tom Lynch button.webp

Welcome back, Tom Lynch. Great find in the button. Take memories of Gordon with you because you know he goes on your digs. Wish you much success!

New to the Sioux Falls, SD area (from S. Minnesota area). Preparing to get out and do some exploring with my older Garrett GTAx1250 detector. If anyone is knowledgeable regarding "do's and don'ts" in and around Sioux Falls, please advise. I cannot find any clubs around Sioux Falls, and the on-line "laws" are very vague.
Thanks, and great hunting....

I went to the Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation Dept after my post, and I can MD in the city parks as long as I do not dig anything. All findings MUST be sitting on top of the grass or soil. Grrrr

Hello there, new member from Colorado. I spent two years living in a cabin on a patented gold claim. My boyfriend and I picked up a crummy detector while we lived there and got the hunting bug! I recently purchased an MXT and am ready to take it to the next level! Very appreciative to be joining this forum and accessing all of this great information :). Thanks and HH.

Hello! Newbie from Lincoln Ne! My daughter and I have decided to find a cool hobby together and we thought this would be fun and rewarding at the same time. We are looking for any clubs here in Lincoln that do treasure hunting for gems and minerals. Glad to meet everyone!

Hi to all, another new one here, been using this forum for information to refresh my memory as I have recently got back into detecting after a 4 year break, took a new job back then which involves a lot of travel and extended time periods away from home, so needles to say I didn't have a whole lot of time to spare when home, the family things had to come first.Thankfully the travel has quietened down considerably and have been able to get the X-Terra 70 out of it's box and use it again.Having a great time being back into it The info I have been able to read on the X-70 has made things a lot easier getting back into detecting,my thanks goes out to all who submitted the articles I've read

Hello, I'm glad I joined you're forums. This site is really rich in information about treasure hunting and finding, too! The community seems very energetic and respectful. My thanks to admin Jeff_pa for his patience and understanding in the mini snafu concerning one of my PM's to one of the members. It's easy to assume it's okay to ask for advice and share interests here. Being new, and given the nature of this site focused largely on objects of monetary value, it is also a place which can attract the wrong element, or folks who are looking for freebies, or launching scams. It is what it is, right? I can see from looking around there's lots of smart and upstanding folks here and I'm sure I'll connect with some deep thinkers and tenacious hunters who see the benifit in working towards understanding any person or situation on a functional level.

I've managed a company here in Eugene, Oregon for over a decade and only recently learned that one of the people I've worked with is involved in Metal Detecting. I walked into his office and saw a huge chest full of artifacts, including things over 100 years old. It was very cool. I look forward to purchasing a detector soon and finding similar long lost artifacts of our past.

I look forwards to contributing to these boards. Thanks all!

Hi all. new to site and metal detecting we are from Nebraska. But have family in South Dakota and North Dakota so travel around these three states. We consider ourselves the chefs of holes as our friends in the prairie are .... my wife and I believe we are two prairie dogs that evolved into human form and here we are doing what we love best.....love this site lots of information and kul people to learn from. We are new to all of this but enjoying it immensely where we live very few md's but lots of land........in fact it is very rare we even see a metal detector.......while when we go south we see them in lots of places up here .......far and few between.......so unlike the prairie dogs we don't have a large colony to help with our hole diggings....lol .......enuff said happy hunting....I see on here lots of CW stuff........but in our area it will be more indian wars stuff.....I have yet to see a Dixie flag or even a buckle confederate item........but in MO my wife's best friend is from we see d a lot of those item-cool to look at for us. ..........so keep up posting pics old people like us truly enjoy seeing the good stuff and the junk gives us hope we will find something really valuable........but truly we do have something very valuable each other who we can truly say lenjoy metal detecting together.......we hunt/fish and MD together what more could a man ask for or a woman even.......we are just pocket buddies......have a nice evening.

Hello all Glenn from Florida's Space Coast here I believe I already did my introduction a couple days ago. I said I was waiting for my Sand Shark. I got it in the mail yesterday....after bumbling around with my boys hiding coins in the yard on each other we went straight to the beach.........I am happy to say we found a whole $.11 and it was worth every second of it with my grandchildren!!!!!! I think we are goin to approach this as a team, a detector a digger and a pointer. what is your opinion? that way everyone is involved and we will change when someone gets tired. Yes I think this weekend I might be headed to Sebastian! Love your site......we found the penny first we all screamed like it was Christmas day...........

Hi everyone, I must confess to not being a dedicated treasure hunter just yet but I have always had an interest brewing but just never got round to doing anything upto now. Anyway, here is my introduction thread.

I recently acquired a vintage Fieldmaster FX55 in almost as new condition. Now, I don't know anything about metal detecting or detectors yet but I do know this thing is British made by a company that no longer exists. (finished trading 3 yrs ago) and I also know that compared to modern day equipment its ability as a detector falls far short of the front row. That doesn't matter to me to be honest because it isn't where we start but where we finish that matters I guess. Anyway my excuse for buying this old machine is that I bought it for my young daughter and purely because of it's superb condition.

Problem is that daddy can't show baby how to use this quality piece of kit without possibly your help since he has no idea of how it works and was just wondering if you guys can help. It has various dials on it to make adjustments but I have no idea of what they do. Sorry. I would be grateful if anyone can help with information of where I might find a copy of the user manual. Alternatively anywhere I would be able to find out about the specific controls to using the FX 55

Kind Regards
