'Prunepickers' is what I always heard. I had some family who joined that great Okie exodus to the late great Golden State back in the depression, but they turned around and came back to eastern Oklahoma. Steinbeck didn't write a book about them.
sir sum of the best people came here from that state and still live here.

I thought Kalifornia was "Northern Mexico" now?
I was born in SoCal after my kin moved there BEFORE the Depression from Indian Territory.
Then some moved north and we followed in 1960s after the Watts Riots.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was our horrible governor for about 8 years. I disagreed with just about everthing he did and stood for, but he did say one thing that was totally true. He said: "The United States of America is the worlds greatest country, and California is it's greatest state"!

Eat your heart out Texas. :-*

Okies! We got rid of all of them in the 1930s. Will Rogers said the migration raised the average IQ of both states by several points. Monty

Eatin prunes is sure the runs :tard:
Just back from visiting a friend, who was cooking some of 'em. She shared a birthday card she had got. "To get rid of lines, iron your prunes."

Or, you can just add a lot of water: either to you or your prunes.

Getting back on topic, didn't Rn-Old call 'em "Kali-4-ny-ans"? Maybe that was just "Kali-4-nye-a"? Such a cute but terminal Austrian hackcent.

My uncle, who lives in Visalia (near Fresh-no) said people there were the only people he knew of who "... moved from the cities, where the houses were 4 and 5 feet apart, to the parks where the tents are 2 and 3 feet apart in the summer" for their vacations. After visiting Yosemite, I finally understood he wasn't kidding!
