I think the wife beating gene is caused by the over use of Alcohol .
Women had to change diapers a lot so I think a dress would have been an easy way to go.

Hahaha! Some of my family grew up in the Choctaw Nation about 20 miles south of Belle Starr's place at Younger's Bend. Yes, she was a woman. When I was very young, I got to hear some of the really old guys talk about remembering her when they were very young just before she got killed. The thing that about her that impressed them most was...her horse. They thought it was the smartest horse in the world. Her daughter was a little better lookin, and maybe I can come up with a pic of her.

Here's a couple of pics. The first is of her daughter, Pearl Starr. Many arguments about who her dad was, some say Cole Younger others Jim Reed, which is probably right. In all fairness to Belle, the second is reputed to be a photo of a young Belle Starr. I had doubts about it, but Glenn Shirley, a great author of tales of early day Oklahoma used it on the cover of his book about Belle Starr, so maybe it is. etex you can search up pics of Myra Belle and find ones of her on that same horse those guys saw. You will note she is riding side-saddle.

Here you go etex, this is a pic taken of Belle Starr on her horse in Ft. Smith. I never heard a whole lot about her, even though the family was just across the river. It'd be cool if I had some stories passed down about the family maybe crossin the river and visitin with Belle, or hangin out with her, but that ain't the case. Belle claimed that all the people in the area had a grudge against her because she refused to let them hunt on her land. So she had nothin to do with them and stayed to herself on Younger's Bend. The truth of the matter that has been passed down is due to her lifestyle she was not the sort of character decent people would want to be seen associating with. Sorry to say that and my apologies to her descendants who are still around, but it was a hard time then in the Nations and many times it was a case of the pot callin the kettle black.

As far as Side Saddle. Woman or not, I find it curious she rode Side saddle.
For the most part she don't come off as the type who would have been feminine or
worried about what some high class snot may think of seeing her riding a horse
full saddle.
