The weather has been incredible.....it has not stopped blowing in a month and a half.....15-35 for many days !! Ocean is angry !! And storm will brush us again !!

Running, when a tree you cut is falling and it takes an unexpected turn.,.No. Step around it.
I hate dropping much of a tree any more because I can't run.
But I can still get around it if changes course. Oh , watch for it to barberchair too of course. Just in case a witch is involved.

Leaf slapped me in that two day wind last week. And stayed in place the wind was strong enough. Then another.
Now I'm on a tractor in the woods eyeing certain trees.
About that time a branch dropped on me.
No fault of the trees. Or the woods. Or the wind. Or the weather.
Not the time to be there not watching though.

Now one has to respect something that is 60-100ft high.
The lean, the top lean, growth, a spot it will fall.
Path of least resistance, paths to run.
Rotten core, or dead wood half way up.
I pulled one with the tractor.
Did a undercut so it would fall in the direction.
Cut, and the tree spun/turned and went 90° in the wrong direction.
Then doing the undercut and realizing it's got no core, just rot.

Cut a big old dead maple years ago.
It started to lean in the direction I wanted it to fall.
Then it stopped, and the whole root ball went with it.

Widow makers are now a very common problem in the bush around here.

Just on the otherside of my sugar bush trail. A 1 acre area there are 8 dead trees now. 4 are 90' tall. 2 are leaning on other trees. Root balls are pronounced.

I showed the Mrs and said stay out of that area till I get it cleaned up.

Imagine the problem of how to not damage a conglomerate of them whilst I wrest them away from the ocean's breast in a flurry of passion! And in my hasty but furtive departure thereafter.
Maybe I better stay on the beach?

Been some pics around of some beaches.
Remind me of dunes but water driven rapidly Vs wind drive over a long period of time.
And much of the sand and substrate already being moved by equipment. Depending on where the camera points.

But wow the volume of some of the sand piled on shore!

Oh yeah.

Were some bear hunters wanting hollow sections for bait use.
Seems modern barrels with holes of a certain dimension are the law now though.

Bee gums were made from hollow logs back when.

But yes them old maples....
Seen in my area in yards and near streets. And toppling at times. Some shattering in the process.
Some with stones or rocks kids put in them over time.
One where we used to rent with chain grown in a crotch about fifteen feet above ground.
A hardwood milling guy told me he didn't want any domestic (home yard) trees. To much junk in them.

Yes I was browsing the next auction line up.
Incredible stuff.

I remember looking at the silver ingots Kellyco had in their display cases.
This was in 2008/9 and what they weighed.

I did the calculations and at the time silver value was higher than asking price.

I was then thinking 🤔 the silver content in these ingots.

They were pretty heavy actually.

One of those things that rented space up in the head.

Just thought of someone who might have some answers regarding the questions.

if you can get to there home page, then find auction archives, and take a stroll through all the best treasure, and artifacts money can buy !! You can spend days in these archives, and see many of the greatest treasures ever recovered !! Or maybe even buy some !!😂

I have a collection of sothebys auction catalogs
I bought a few lots at an online local auction.

There was probably a 1000 in total for sale at this high-end place.

They seem to be going for a pretty good asking price.

All this talk of widow makers and chainsaws lately, coupled with some dreams I’ve had lately about my own demise …. and today there’s a big ol’ honkin’ gnarly black oak blown half down in the yard that I need to deal with. Spooky….

I think I’ll be extra careful with that saw today. (Or probably tomorrow. Still awful wet today with all the rain we've had.)
