Very Unusual-NewPics! UPDATE! It's OPEN!!!!!

I found this out in the barn while I was moving some old boards . The bottom and top are glass .

There is some stuff inside it - a scrap of material on one side , and a ring shaped thing on the other side .
It is corroded shut . I swabbed some wd40 on it to help loosen it .
maybe tomorrow I can twist it off ?

Re: Very Unusual-NewPics! UPDATE! It's OPEN!!!!!

Reason I suggested falcons, they were trained to hunt, and use a hood to cover the face. The Falconers uses a hood, leg straps and so on.
Yet not knowing if those are claws or talons, who can say.

looks like a voodoo type "placed" defensive type "protective" item --my take upon it is this is --- the circle of claws -- naturally "protected" the person or place from evil --- the cloth part was part once of the owners clothing --the three beads are the "good" or holy trinity -- it was never intended to be opened ever. :{0--- often the circle of claws "traps" the evil within the circle "penning" it within the ring --or the person is within the protection of the claws with "evil kept out."

being you found it --you can do as you wish with since its yours --

but please heed me * I'd photograph it and put it back---

if bad things start occuring or if you start having very vivid bad dreams -- please "replace it" right away.---

or it could be a falconers hood for his falcon and the claws of his beloved bird --that was sealed to protect the remains -- :icon_thumright:

The falconer's memorial is perfectly logical. Falcon talons however are a LOT sharper than that. Trust me - wildlife rehaber once upon a time.

Waiting to hear from the finder on their opinion of what they've found, and what if anything they've done with it since it's been opened.

Re: Very Unusual-NewPics! UPDATE! It's OPEN!!!!!

it's so cool you could open it without destroying it.

almost looks like the container had a purpose for it's shape. usually (who said there is a norm?) containers are straight sided. and the top is smaller in depth when removed.

like it was inserted into something to be seen from both sides. something about 'i guess' 1 inch thick.

or wrapped with leather fixed to a handle?

just wanting to shake things up!

my gut feeling is a memorium to some animal. it doesn't look eerie to me more peaceful.

now i've thought many posts would never be solved - and was way wrong...!!man wouldn't this one 'solved' be cool!

So tell me, now that it's open, has anything "strange" been happening in your surroundings? lol That, is a strange find! Have you posted this in the Indian artifacts section of t-net? Give it a go. I'll bet it's a modern Indian relic

Woven fabric, beads, and claws? First thing that comes to my mind is Indian artifact. It my be an Indian good luck charm sold on the side of the road somewhere. But, I think there is definitely Indian influences here.

My 2 cents,
John

I agree, Indian artifact.

Re: Very Unusual-NewPics! UPDATE! It's OPEN!!!!!

upon farther looking I can see the hood has a beak cover type area built into it -- the claws are some type of raptor or "hunting bird"--- I would say it once belonged t a person that had a pet hunting bird and at its death they kepts it hood with the brass beads and made its claws into a circle and put it in there as a mometo of sorts to the bird . -- the bird clearly meant a lot to the person .

Re: Very Unusual-NewPics! UPDATE! It's OPEN!!!!!

It could be modern American Indian (modern being turn or the century on up) But, I can't see an Indian using something metal with glass for something sacred (sacred as in either loved pet, something for power or whatever else). I dunno, that's just my opinion though. I know Indians used modern items, but they tried to use as much natural materials as possible, not wanting white mans influences on their items.

It does make sense that it was some sort of pet bird of prey (falcon or hawk)

I also don't subscribe to the negativity or fear aspects to it, being whatever it is, something for protection, power or whatever else, and I run a #1 metaphysical forum ;D

And having been an antique dealer and collector of ancient artifacts, I probably wouldn't have opened it, just to keep it in as original condition as possible (cleaning as much as possible without disturbing it's integrity), for it's uniqueness and possible value or historical value.

I guess I would try to get it back together and make it as it was before, in case it does have historical value. But it sure is unique and intriguing as heck...

Seems it has a wide range of possibilities, so try to restore it to it's original condition (as found)
Did you have to pry the case open? Did it cause damage? You wouldn't want to be kicking your self if you found out it was something extremely valuable, but now not as much so because it was opened and isn't "quite" the same as when found.

Re: Very Unusual-NewPics! UPDATE! It's OPEN!!!!!

I put everything back in the case and resealed it . Nothing strange has happened to me ....yet .

I did have a weird dream the other night - A wall of water was rushing down through a valley , myself and 3 others were running to get to my truck - then I woke up .

Could those beads be gold ? I thought it was odd they have no tarnish typical of brass .

Thank You for all the interesting responces !

Might be, but then they haven't been exposed to air or moisture to become tarnished if they're brass, though they do look a bit darkish to me.

And, if they're gold, it's such a tiny amount (with approx 3 beads that size I cannot even get a weight on them), for me I wouldn't bother to reopen just to test them. The value would be on the total package.

It's something that no one may never find another like it ever, or years from now you'll find out what the heck it is...
In either case it's a "very" cool and unique item that would go well in anyone's collection of very rare and super unique old items.
I would display it, but not let anyone touch it (I'm just that way) It'd be fantastic conversation piece

Edited:
And yes, lol...I just happen to have 18K beads that size sitting around...

the monocule thing may not be weird at all. it could have had purpose to keep the claws or talons from curling. preserving their shape - stating their importance.

Re: Very Unusual-NewPics! UPDATE! It's OPEN!!!!!

I just don't think if it was my pet raptor, I could remove it's talons upon it's demise. I could offer it back to nature under a shade tree, or up high in some branches, but I don't think I would cut it's talons off. Just my one insight into human nature, besides, there are six claws/talons, don't birds of prey have three forward toes and a back toe? If I were to remove 6, why not remove all of them? I still think it's a "voodoo" type thing. Maybe someone who practices... ummm not sure what the word is here, and I'm honestly not patronizing. way out of my league here, maybe a person who believes this way, would have the essentials to produce these things, amulets, charms. Like a collection of claws, talons. How about a chicken or rooster? On a farm, around a barn, I think these might readily be available. Can the beads be dated or typed? Or the fabric? What about the container it's self?

Love this one.

Re: Very Unusual-NewPics! UPDATE! It's OPEN!!!!!

the reason I think "bird of prey" is the "training hood" with the beak cover built into it or "cloth" as most folks are calling it -- which is the kind of thing used to train hunting birds -- that and the claws from the "front toes or talons are 3 per side or 6 in total (not counting the smaller rear claws of course)

It's not a monacle case. Who the heck would seal a monacle closed?

Maybe time sealed it? Maybe it was for something else... what do you think it might be Trish?

Honestly, at first I thought it was a memorial piece with the grey hair woven in amid the cloth. The claws perhaps a reminder of a strong personality or they might have belonged to a cherished pet of some kind. But now, seeing the three beads attached with the woven cloth and the claws...it's an amulet. Meant to keep something away. It's not an talisman or it would have been made to be worn, to attract something.

Honestly, you all can think I'm a fruit loop but seal it again please.

I totally agree with you Trish! Put it back.
