Very Unusual-NewPics! UPDATE! It's OPEN!!!!!

I found this out in the barn while I was moving some old boards . The bottom and top are glass .

There is some stuff inside it - a scrap of material on one side , and a ring shaped thing on the other side .
It is corroded shut . I swabbed some wd40 on it to help loosen it .
maybe tomorrow I can twist it off ?

unfortunatly we kicked natives to the curb before this kind of container was made (sorry natives).unless one stayed back and said, i'll teach whitty a lesson, i'll disassamble his bird and chuck it in this jar that'll teach him to kick us to the desert.

Re: Very Unusual-NewPics! UPDATE! It's OPEN!!!!!

I would say it was the watch case. But I do not think it was a neclace kit. I think it was the actual pendelum of a necklace which broke & fell away. I believe it is meant to be decorative by things the person found & had just collected at random. Little things people find interesting they pick up & keep, sometimes even display even to the extent of not knowing what the item is. I think it is an interesting piece & would not have disturbed it's original condition besides outer cleaning. I then would have placed it in a shodobox for display in my home for a conversation piece for visitors. I am sad to see you opened this fine relic of history...

I think that is a watch movement case. Dont know why it has animal parts in it though.
I have that same pic in my files but I never put two and two together. :D I think its a match. Great ID taz! :icon_thumright:

The circle of claws must have some meaning. Here is mention of a circle of Badger claws from Indian Tribal records.. http://74.125.93.132/search?q=cache...tm+"circle+of+claws"&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

If the opener interfered with it's destiny, yes.

The fact that it was found and pondered about...fascinating, not really a problem. Opened...that was a no no.

It's quite possible the opener was supposed to find this thing and place it somewhere else. Part of the story of it's journey.

But no, honestly I don't think it was ever meant to be opened. Found, perhaps. But not opened.

Seal it back up so it can continue to do whatever was wished upon it to do.
This was clearly supposed to be opened. Failure to open this item would have doomed the finder to eternal damnation. Re-sealing it would be a huge mistake.

Nice try but it's done and over with. Mock me all you want, don't really care but I'm confident the finder did the right thing. Besides, it was a fascinating object to ponder no matter if it was a mojo item, a bear claw necklace kit, a falcon hood memorial from a favored hunting bird, or anything else. Even though some of us had strong visceral reactions to what it may be, myself included. None of us will ever know it's true purpose. It was one heck of an interesting find though.
