I think it is a sun and moon. You know, you should take some kind of rubbing of it, or better yet, do an ink blot (cover the ring in some kind of ink or markable, and roll across paper).
That way you can see the whole design. There is something about the dots that are interesting to me.

does it look like Roman celtic.... Hey Doc.... ???

Michelle, I don't meen to be nitpicky, but what is "Roman-Celtic"? Rome never did succeed in conquering the Celts. ;D

Wrong part of the world as well. There are lots of Roman bronze rings discovered in England, but I've never seen one like that.

Maybe you could roll it across putty or playdo so we could have a better look at the design imprint ,if you dont want to put ink on it.

A genuine Celtic relic that ought to be turned in immediately to the British Museum! Michelle, you are so................ smart.

Doc
Knock it off Doc....I actually have a life instead of reading books all the time...book knowledge can be okay...but you sure miss alot of the REAL world.

That statement has a ring of truth to it...

Not that it matters— particularly in the context of this thread— but Roman-Celtic is, in fact, a perfectly legitimate term, although the preferred form is Romano-Celtic.

Cheers. I suppose if your using it as a refernce to that era in history. I was probably short-sighted when you look at the fact that there were Celts in France as well as the British Isles who no doubt became Romanized by the influence of Roman culture.

wedding band warrior ring...no dots yet...anybody made out what they are,......unless...last pic...they were stones

Michelle, the last two pics are irish claddagh rings, traditionally to show ones attachment, worn a specific way to show if that person is taken or available. I had one for a wedding band due to my irish roots.

I imagine that the ring pictured was a present from a loved one, who was trying to convey they loved them all the time, night and day... Yes, sappy I know.

If its not something like that, then it might be some kind of fraternal order type ring. I really want to see an impression of the whole ring before I draw any real conclusions.

I am new at this site and still trying to stumble my way thru . Here is a couple of more photos. I hate to clean much more on the ring . Afraid of wearing the patina off.

I am no expert, but it may be safe to clean using electrolysis. Look in TN section on cleaning and preservation for some tips.

Treasurenet is not a battle of wits. I will not be dragged into such.

I disagree, Ultra-sonic, you can pull it out with your fingers at any time you feel, or see that it is loosing too much: and it doesn't takr very long either.

Doc
I really don't know which is better. I use electrolysis. I was only suggesting there is a wealth of information in the "Cleaning and Preservation" section. I will check it out.

is the round shield "sun" repeated around the band (ring) it is clearly the sun...i see it now and you know I think the dots may be planets.........anyone else...Roman astrologers ring maybe....guessing

It appears to end after the dot after suns doesn't?
Thats smart thinking about the astronomy idea. I don't necessarily agree with it, but its a good thought in the correct direction.
After seeing this new set of pictures, I'm actually seeing the flower patterns becoming a more viable choice! LOL
