We have completed an upgrade of TreaasureNet.com to the latest software. There are still lots of upgrades coming and still lots of work to perform. The site is not done upgrading yet...

  • We still have to re-index the search engine, that is ongoing. DONE
  • We have to reoptimize all images to .webp format, that is ongoing.
  • We still have some bugs to fix with some custom add-ons, that is ongoing.
  • We still have to fix up the templates/skins, that is ongoing.

The new software should be faster, but the rebuild processes are running in the background and that can slow the site down a little.

You can customize the look with the icons in the header. You can choose different background images, a fluid width, as well as a light or dark mode. To do so, click the following icons in the header.

We will update this thread with news and as we finish features and fix bugs.

Thank you for your continued support and patience!

it's hard on the eyes , I hope to adjust.

The site now supports a dark mode, as well as different background images/colors.

Check the "Customize" icon in the header as well as the gear icon that lets you go into dark mode. Both of those options should give you a lot of customization.

Edit: I have updated the first post with an image to show you where to click to customize. Hope this helps.

thanks for the info , much better now at full width , darker screen.

Well done all. That seems to have gone very smoothly, but... "We have to reoptimize all images to .webp format". Ugh... call me a Luddite but that's another irritation for which we can thank Dr. Google.

In this situation, it's a real benefit. Especially for the people on mobile... Here's an example. Check out these image sizes. Keep in mind, the PNG and JPG files are already _heavily optimized_ because I ran pngquant and jpegoptim on them. It optimized them as much as possible for their formats.... then you see the webp size, which optimizes them to webp and the file sizes are much smaller. Every byte counts on mobile especially... and the before and after is quite large.

Code:
-rw-r--r-- 1 nginx nginx 252K Jan 15 22:37 tnet-bg-2.jpg
-rw-r--r-- 1 nginx nginx 35K Jan 19 12:39 tnet-bg-2.webp
-rw-r--r-- 1 nginx nginx 243K Jan 15 22:37 tnet-bg-3.jpg
-rw-r--r-- 1 nginx nginx 31K Jan 19 12:39 tnet-bg-3.webp
-rw-r--r-- 1 nginx nginx 253K Jan 15 22:37 tnet-bg-4.jpg
-rw-r--r-- 1 nginx nginx 36K Jan 19 12:39 tnet-bg-4.webp
-rw-r--r-- 1 nginx nginx 251K Jan 15 22:37 tnet-bg-6.jpg
-rw-r--r-- 1 nginx nginx 36K Jan 19 12:39 tnet-bg-6.webp

Just logged on and thought it looked different.

Love the new look especially the dark mode.

Keep up the great work guys!

I guess I'm missing something with the colour adjusting. I changes the border but the rest of the page 95% stays the light bright peachy colour.

There is a dark skin, there are also other background options. If you change to the dark skin it should be a dark gray background color. Here's a screenshot.

Hoping you can find a background color between the night and day...white seems too bright, and the dark is...well, too dark.

There's always growing pains with an upgrade, but in the end it all works out better... :occasion14:

Can you add a new threads button as well?

What do you mean new thread button? There is "post thread" to start new thread, and at top far left is "New Posts" Icon.

I'll mention my wish list while here, and that would be, if possible, implementing the banner the way it was on the old software, that is, literally a banner across the top of the screen.

Why I liked it --

* It added a nice splash of color right at the top, and showed cool, old stuff, like a treasure hunting site
* You always knew instantly if something new was found without extra clicks
* IIRC, you could quickly scroll thru the history of all the banner finds without leaving the main page

What I don't like about it now --

* Well, basically the opposite of the above, but in particular, an extra click to see if something new was added, when usually nothing new has been
* It is very difficult to read the title of the find with the white on beige color scheme, at least on my setup, e.g. see attached image of title below

This is probably low priority, but if in their monkeying and this is easy, it would be cool imho.

  • We are going to update that title color so it's easier to read. DONE.
  • We removed the finds because the modification to do it has errors. It's not updated for the new software and the author that wrote it is unresponsive. We don't have the technical skills to fix it, so we are looking for someone else to do it.
  • It didn't do thumbnails, it displayed the full size image, which many were huge and slow to download and this greatly affected users on mobile.

So it's something we are aware of, we are working on it. We didn't remove it because we wanted to, more of we had no choice.

There are 7 different background color options, and then the dark skin option also changes the background color. Have you tried the different background options?

Here's a screenshot.

Yes, I did and it does help. I was hoping for an "in between" for the Style variation, but I do understand how it would effect the page, overall. Tried the black, and it's OK, but I'm going to try and get used to the white. Let me give it a couple days to try and get used to it.

Edit: I've also updated the background from #FAFAFA to #F3F3F3 -- it's a bit more "gray" instead of "white"
