A more likely candidate for a potential vessel in that area is approximately 2800' to the west and slightly closer to the river. Measures about 160' in length +/-.

Steve you may be on to something there. Of course it would help if the resolution for the area was better! Why don't we just take your jet for a spin? I've got $50 for JP-5 ;D

Pcola,

I think the shape you found further east is definitely a ship. I dont think Nathan Smith has found squat, at least based on the lat/lon in the court docs. The area I mentioned West of Smiths is questionable at best. If the remains of this ship are our there, I think your location is at the top of the list. Lets see, $50 for jet-A at $4.10/gal=12.2gal. Wont even get it started!

Lol...I figured you'd get a laugh out of that. The Fury is definitely one of my favorite early Navy jets. I've always wondered how the FJ-4 and the F-86 match up head to head. Both are awesome aircraft for sure. Do you have any online pics of her? Oops...nevermind...I just saw the video of your belly landing :o I had heard about it but never saw the video. Beautiful landing and even more beautiful aircraft man!

Pcola,

We've got a couple of F-86s as well, one of them will be out of restoration in April. Also have a Douglas TA-4J Skyhawk and a T-34B Mentor in restoration. Pics of these will be on the website when they are complete.

Thanks Dave knew i could count on you to set the record straight, those of you who don't know, Dave is a real cowboy from the great state of Texas

:wav: :whip2: as most of us know, nothing like having one of the locals to get the true story, Dave has told me that the woman who owns this property has so much money she don't need the three billion dollars...must be nice

Dave,

If you look at the second pic close, you will see an "X" to the left near the big toe. In my previous post I mentioned that Smith said in an interview that there is an "X" at his lat/lon location that could be "the capstan of the ship". This footprint makes the supposed wreck site 1000'X300', or, Noahs Ark!

Forgive me for being a dumb Florida Panhandler, but did I miss something about Dave's post that hasn't already been posted? My apologies in advance if I missed something.

No, please accept my apologies for not reading all your posted links Pcola , you obviously had been on top of this from the start, again my apologies :notworthy:

the little extra that i got from Dave, who's uncle worked on the ranch where said treasure ship was found , was the reason why these people would not want to aid in the recovery of such a valuable find....they don't need the money

Sincerely Limo Bob :icon_pirat:

PS...as a matter of fact i am a big fan and enjoy reading your post's....you truly are a wealth of knowledge and I can only hope to learn from you and many others that i have come across on this web site....this is a perfect example of why you should read the entire thread ...including all links....guilty as charged, please forgive my mistake ...it wont happen again

hey gang,
I found these pixs at UTEP ( Uni of Texas El Paso ). Please read the captions... I was just wondring if these might be Smith's wrecks ???

Nice research PLL. Storms could easily take ships inland. What Smith thinks is a ship at the coordinates in the legal filings could not be-too large.

Pcola the ship in post 49# is that the one by patties place or another across the bay by deadmans island?

Relic,

That is the one close to Deadman's Island in 13ft of water at the cove. From what I read on the archaeological survey, they now believe it was abandoned there between 1800-1810 after it was determined to be unfeasible to repair. The wreck over by Patti's is actually a pile of several wrecks that have been mixed together over the years.

Pcola

The judge ruled the spot in question is in navigable waters but Smith needed more convincing evidence before he'd let him dig it up. I guess that's what he's working on now. Interesting.
