Perhaps this has been discussed before, but i feel that i need to bring it up anyway...
As my forum handle implies, I am deeply involved with understanding and experiencing things which are considered paranormal or outlandish, by a lot of people. I am a metal detectorist and find myself in some pretty remote and beautiful locations, as I'm sure a lot of you folks do... I find the treks and the time spent in the hills and forests to be very relaxing and almost a meditative practice, i sometimes get well beyond my 'mind chatter' and feel very receptive to the natural energies that envelope me .. On more than a few occasions i have become aware of energies, entities and unusual things going on around me, as i slowly plod around with my detector and dogs. It has become so frequent, that i respectfully address (vocally) each forest/area when i arrive, in some sort of announcement of my intentions for the visit.... hoping to minimise the potential interactions. Subtle energies have often helped me find some great stuff, and i take time to make my thanks,,, other times I have been quite brutally driven from areas where I was unwelcome, by uneasy feelings, things being thrown in my direction and, on more than one occasion, the actual surroundings creating offensive noises.... once an exposed rockface just blatantly growled at me,, sending my dogs into a frenzy and cutting my visit short,, made a speedy exit from the area.. I have seen entities follow me, usually about 3-4 trees distant, had whispers inside my Nox headphones,, and many other strange happenings..
So i wanted to give a few examples (have plenty more, one or two of which were terrifying) and see if anyone else has experiences similar happenings whilst treasure hunting ?....
To some this will all sound a bit 'mad' or be the imagination of a paranoid or insecure guy,,, but i can tell you that i am neither. i am not easily spooked, and usually prefer to stay and address the situation head -on , I grew up in the mountains and am aware of animal and natural noise generation..

So,, anyone want to discuss or add their input ?

I don’t see anything strange or outlandish about it at all. I’m new to this type of treasure hunting but I’ve been an avid hiker and hunter my entire life and have had many of the same kind of experiences. The mountains, wildlife, and our ancestors speak to us, if we listen.

I’ll share one and it will explain how I got this silly nickname at the same time. When I was 4 years old my family was visiting a guy my father served with on his reservation. During a powwow I went into the forest and they looked for me all evening and night but I was nowhere to be found. The next morning I casually returned with a full grown male wolf walking by my side.

When we approached the search party going out that morning my mother was standing next to their medicine man and in a very matter of fact tone he said “Girl With Wolf back”. The pidgin English was intentional and the nickname (his sarcasm) stuck.

I only have a foggy memory of it, but I remember finding the wolf pack, the Luna leading me to water and to a dead deer that I used to stay warm, and at sunrise the Alpha guiding me back to my family. Anyway, it isn’t unusual to me to have unusual things happen in the mountains, because I didn’t just wander off, something called to me, and I remember not being the least bit scared.

I love to metal detect beaches in the very early AM...
just as sun is coming up and the beaches are desolate...
where I can and do connect with nature.

This is a luxury these days... for I don't do it very often / as much as i would like.

Agreed. Especially the "if we listen" part.
Yes,, that is something that I learned early on,, listening without asking anything, just listening... I often find that I am getting the answers to questions that I haven't yet created.

Fantastic story .🐺. thanks for sharing it....
. I Have had recurring Wolf encounters over the years, in spirit and physical,, which (to be fair) is not that common in Europe...

Fantastic story now I understand the Wolf is your spirit animal. For me it is The Crow, I am Crow by name, Crow by nature and born in my mother tongue insé gleann na Slua meaning the valley of the Crows. It was where my family originated from the Celtic préachán clan.

A crow is scavenger and opportunist. My mother's side was Foley meaning Plunderer. So I guess treasure hunting was natural fit?

I’m envious of those of you who know the ancient lineage of your families. All I know of my ancient lineage is cane from England in the 1700s but probably Germany before that but nobody really knows. American mutt, I guess.

MY spirit animal is the Toad..... Had some great fun learning the ways over the years..
I too am Irish,,

An Dún

Familiar with the Morrigan ,?, a fierce ally, and terrible foe ?.....

My family was originally from country Kerry the kingdom. Spread into county Cork around Marcroom as dirt poor sheep farmers. We also had distant connections to Rosscommon. But Alas I was born Cork. But spent most of life in other parts of the world like wandering Tinker part of the unseen Irish empire scattered among the four corners of globe.

I too understand the way of the The Tuath Dé Danann. it is ingrained into us without most of us ever knowing it. Patriotic, rebellious with a love of the song of the seasons as if its the poetry of the soul.

Morrigan ? I think I married her?

Thank you, and that’s interesting. Sounds like treasure hunting is in your DNA.

Poverty, disenfranchisement and being a persona non grata was the driving force in my DNA. Treasure hunting is primeval desire of hunting and gathering in adverse conditions to survive.

That aided by a wicked gallows humor.

What your experience is throw back in the days such intuition and sense could keep you alive in game of life in hunter and gatherer wold. Treasure hunting is form of scavenging a part of hunting and gathering.

For many people it cities growing in world of industrialized food production and electric light fire and warmth all comforts of civilization at your finger tips with out any effort. We become cocooned in a bubble lost touch with nature and survival of the fittest and our primeval self that win us all.

I have been to places that only sound of humanity is yourself. Some people totally freak out at remoteness. And bitter realization if you stuff you are on your own. You senses turn into the sounds of landscape around you.

Your hearing improve as with your sense of smell. it is as if you slowing transforming back into an animal predator and prey as we once where. Every sound every rustle can be a game of survival in heightened awareness around you.

And makes the world around you strange and foreboding.

I had to DDG (DuckDuckGo) a couple of those terms but I get what you’re saying because that fits me too. Though I am fitting in better now in the world I should be in. Posting here an Reddit has really curbed my anxiety and made me not seem so standoffish. Or as I’ve been told before- “scary”.

I started my treasure hunting experiences in Arizona, nothing like my life in Michigan..
Trying not to get poked by a bush or cactus, get in and out of a canyon, dont run out of water, killer heat, watch for Snakes and Cougars, and Black widows and Scorpions. Killer bees!
I never felt anything paranormal, but I was aware I could die! It's nothing like that in Michigan.. Better treasure opportunities there, than here. I will return!

It’s true what you are saying. I bow hunted for about 8 yrs. I live rural and only hunted walking distance, within about 1 mile from my house. I hunted every day that I could, which was daily except for weather, morning and evening. I was definitely in tune with nature. Your senses do get sharper. Especially hearing and smell.

Here's another "para" you may find useful: The Paragraph!

Your actually quite vulnerable when metal detecting with earphones on as you concentrating of listening for signals with all outside noises muffled. Also you eyes are reeled to the ground . So you situational awareness diminishes. So its best to scope out a site for hazard or potential; hazards to begin with.

Each region has differences. that is why learning off the locals is must in understanding dangers in various regions.. understand the hazards can keep you alive. In deserts forested or even in open countryside. no matter where you go in world.

A jungle at night can be virtual rock and role concert. Hum of Cicadas are often heard due to adult males' loud courting sounds. And the chirp of crickets various night bird. rats and various night time animals. Sticks snap Fruits bats make horrible screeching sound. A owl that calls at night sounds like women wailing. And everything out there is wanting to bite you sting or eat you. The jungle is alive at night. Yet if they all fall silent you know some thing is out there.

They much farther away than you think yet each one can above mentioned insects or animal or bird can tell you if some one or some thing is getting closer or further away. Each place is different, There are eyes everywhere watching observing. insects, bird animals lurking in the game of survival. Its easy to fall under the spell of paranormal when entering a place that some times seems so alien.
