Found this a slightly different type of "today's finds." Sorry if it's in the wrong place. I like to occasionally browse random subjects on eBay and "Calusa Indian" is one of them. Haven't had a good hit on it for artifacts in years, but here's today's find!

Someone claiming to have an authentic Calusa mask(s), made out of ship timber. For the low price of 8,500$! As far as I know the proper Calusa homestead would have been the Estero/Charlotte bay.
It's out of my price range with a little one on the way, but I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks. Sounds too good to be true, but hey ya never know.

Reminds me of the thing Jim Carey wore in mask! 😄

After giving it a second look, I’d say this is a signed reproduction. I see JK. A hot “branding iron” is commonly used to mark wooden items. I use one myself though much smaller.

It's strange that I can't find this mask on any searches.
The item number isn't working.

Can anyone find this listing in a quick search?

Fort Worth ? ? ?

:/

🤣 Well, maybe they canoed from SW FL to Ft Worth? They made it to Cuba in their canoes. The Spanish didn’t mess with them! The mask is cool but with no ownership record I’d be worried it would be declared cultural patrimony after I bought it and it would be confiscated.

There seems to be a "City of Fort Worth" in Florida, but it's east of Tampa in the Palm Beach area.

The actual listing is here:

Furthermore...... since i am here and have a moment.... heh

The likelyhood of this being a real mask is zero.
The paint would not loook like that (condition of).... NOT TO mention... the motif of painting is not only bad airport art but NOTHING that the Calusa were known to depict.

And even further yet..........

The best example of a Calusa mask as far as i know it....
Most that have been found were pulled from the muck where a majority ended up dust.

JFY....
This item is NOT a real Calusa mask..

From another listing by the same seller:

Claude Monet Juvenile Seaside Family Oil Painting (1860) for $22,000 or best offer.

An acknowledged original by the French Cultural of the Arts [really?], this, as referred to, juvenile painting of Monet's family is title, ALKIRE. Which in the communal language touching Switzerland, means Family [as opposed to Alkire being a mid-late 20th Century commercial wall-art signature?]. His customary signature is present as initialed in the body of the work [really? Where, I don’t see it]

I really, really don't think so.

But the seller has a 99% positive feedback.
Actually the painting is more believable 🤣
It seems that fleaBay the only place one can flog fakes and get away with it.

Phillips head screws were not invented until 1932, and while I'm not positive, that looks to be a Phillips head.

It seems that EBay the only place one can flog fakes and get away with it.

Back when I was selling books on Ebay, there were several sellers that would sign books with the authors name, and offer them as signed 1st editions. The Booksellers forum there had a number of reasonably honest bookmen, and they made their living off of their reputation as a honest dealer. We would send Ebay a daily list of all the falsified listings, and 90% of the time they didn't do squat. They did manage to finally ban the sellers, and keep them banned. Never trust a "signed by author" signature on a valuable book unless the signature is verified by someone legit.

I just realized the tag line under my post.
So if a person mentions ebay they claim that a person is associated with them?
The heck I'm not.
I thought if I changed it to fleaBay it would disappear 🤣
