Oh brother....got down to a well known treasure beach. I knew they were in the middle of a beach renourishment that will seal this spot under rock, brick, and concrete. There was a slim chance that between back hoes and excavators that I might be able to sneak in and get a coin or 2 before this spot is done for good !! Well it was worth it and I got a 1659 marevedi and a cut spanish silver in the same hole...within 4 inches of each other !! What a thrill !! 20210215_193300.jpg

Both coins are uncleaned and as dug.....you can see that they were free of saltwater for the most part, as they are not to corroded. The marevedi is killer with all sorts of counter stamps and markings ive yet to decipher. Ill have to start researching to understand what im seeing. I guess there is a slight chance that this coin is a 1559...?? Not quite sure yet. Not sure how these coins were made but almost looks hammered. 20210215_193231.jpg20210215_193217.jpg
The cut silver does not show much right now but I can see some details struggling to come out. The faint print of a cross is there under a sulfide crust. Distinct cut marks on 2 sides....still wondering what denomination it is....not sure if ill ever know. What a thrill...getting right up in there during the dig and snatching some coins out !!20210215_142334.jpg20210215_142344.jpg
Big shout out to islamoradamark.....thanks for sharing the excitement with me and digging with me !! Wooo hoooo !! Treasure coins !! A little bitter sweet knowing that many other coins were dug and loaded into dump trucks and hauled away....at least I saved a couple of them....got a nice Concho or rosette also....got to take a pic !! Thanks for looking and happy hunting folks !! Woooo hoooo !!

I'll throw it in with the other fakes....NOT!!

You should send it to me for proper verification :P

And I will speed up my process of verification to just a few years.

See... I have to turn it into jewelry and wear it for that time... so others may also give their opinions on its authenticity.

After which I will then return it with my opinions and others... free of charge. of course...

Only because its you :P

Greatest sales line ever at flea market... "I will give you the best price... because its you".

I am just astounded, Bart! That is just amazing finds. I don't know who the person was that gave you that permission, but if it was me, I'd be buying them dinner. At least. Great save and a very well deserved banner!

Congratulations on your Banner. An extremely worthy find. The fact that you recovered these coins just before they would have been lost forever is quite something. Well done!

Thank you dave....seems the cut piece weighs in at 6.6grams !?

So you found about a fifth .... of a 8 reale? Rounds are on Bart!!!! :occasion14:

Actually sounds like a heavy 1/4 of an 8 reale, so a 2 reale? I think the 8 reales cobbs were supposed to be 27-28 grams .

You guys have gotten banners for your finds... and I thought for sure my pristine pull tab was gonna put me up there with ya's... but noooooo.

Expecially since it was almost mint state!!

Thank you WD....no permission on this one, just the side of the highway where a ship blew up onto the sand and spilled the cobbs....I've been waiting for years for them to dig and spread sand and finally the D.O.T. is doing work. Got another treasure coin today !! Woooo hoooo !!

Thank you silvermonkey....the satisfaction faction of knowing that I have saved these pieces from certain loss is great.....I saved a 4 reale today with only minutes to spare before it would have been scooped up and discarded !!

Pete....4x6.6 = 26.4......so it adds up as a 2 reale....now I have to look at features and it looks to have a full cross on it so I don't think its clipped from an eight....I think it was clipped at the mint to meet weight......I think....im still learning about these cobbs and each find is good for more education on the subject !!
Happy hunting pete !!
