Oh brother....got down to a well known treasure beach. I knew they were in the middle of a beach renourishment that will seal this spot under rock, brick, and concrete. There was a slim chance that between back hoes and excavators that I might be able to sneak in and get a coin or 2 before this spot is done for good !! Well it was worth it and I got a 1659 marevedi and a cut spanish silver in the same hole...within 4 inches of each other !! What a thrill !! 20210215_193300.jpg

Both coins are uncleaned and as dug.....you can see that they were free of saltwater for the most part, as they are not to corroded. The marevedi is killer with all sorts of counter stamps and markings ive yet to decipher. Ill have to start researching to understand what im seeing. I guess there is a slight chance that this coin is a 1559...?? Not quite sure yet. Not sure how these coins were made but almost looks hammered. 20210215_193231.jpg20210215_193217.jpg
The cut silver does not show much right now but I can see some details struggling to come out. The faint print of a cross is there under a sulfide crust. Distinct cut marks on 2 sides....still wondering what denomination it is....not sure if ill ever know. What a thrill...getting right up in there during the dig and snatching some coins out !!20210215_142334.jpg20210215_142344.jpg
Big shout out to islamoradamark.....thanks for sharing the excitement with me and digging with me !! Wooo hoooo !! Treasure coins !! A little bitter sweet knowing that many other coins were dug and loaded into dump trucks and hauled away....at least I saved a couple of them....got a nice Concho or rosette also....got to take a pic !! Thanks for looking and happy hunting folks !! Woooo hoooo !!

Thanks dave.....and to think I was headed for the ancient 1936 homesite just days ago !! I just love that anything short of Christopher Columbus signet ring can be found in the keys at any moment. Augustine might be the oldest city in the U.S. , but I would wager that Spaniards were in the keys by the early 1500s. So much great history here locked under the tourists feet !!

Nice going Bart ! :occasion14: Uncle Rog. told U 2021 was your lucky # :)

Woooo hooo roger !! Thanks for supporting me so much uncle gold finger.....so glad your back on t-net with the crew !! 2021 baby !!

Holy cow.....me neither roger !! Wooo hooo !! Thanks everybody......its been a crazy 24 hours of scrambling to get down there and dig....after today its over, and the spot will be finished.....well for the most part anyways. What an honor to find 2 cobb coins in the same hole !! Thank you all again for the banner votes.....it truly is an honor to have the votes from from my esteemed peers !!

Im gonna try roger !!

Im still debating the date on that maravedi....1669,1659,1559,or1569.....aaah....whats a hundred years give or take !!

I searched to find one that's been reproduced to see what it originally looked like to no avail :dontknow:

Congratulations on the Banner. :occasion14:
Well deserved #4 see you actually got the credit this time.
Wonder when they'll correct the problem of the other one?.
:hello:anyone out there.......

All I can think about is the date on that coin. Just imagine some some sailor sitting on that beach around a campfire and those coins turned into a pocket spill almost 500 years ago. Now i'm letting my imagination run wild feels good I think i'm going to play in the sand now.

That's what always gets me as well... when I hold something like that in my hands the first thoughts in my mind is... who else held this... who lost it etc.

Bart... see... you are just one emerald ring away from having more finds of Spanish treasure than Gary D... and you are already more of an expert :)

:P~~

Im rooting for my buddy Mark to score the emerald ring today !!

Well I did seed that roadway with several bubble gum ones... so its totally possible :P~~~

Hey.... that begs the question *see my mind works this way)...

Um... if I were driving along... and decided to just start throwing money from my window...

Would I get a ticket for littering ? ? ?

:P

Congrats on achieving your 4th BANNER Bart, now those are a couple of historic Florida finds. :headbang:

Dave
