Too Bad This Treasure Site Has A Political Component

I probably should not have started this thread. Over five years ago I left all forms of social media to avoid political discussion. This site is my only form of social media and I felt as though it was a sanctuary. I went over and visited the political forum here and it didn't do anything for me, but I now realize some people want it. I've quickly reached a point of not giving a damn either way. Still seems like reverse logic to me, to become a Charter Member and receive access to the political discussion. I think it should be the other way around, like paying Amazon Prime to get out of commercials. Political discussions are dangerous because some people are ready and willing to cross over to violence to back their viewpoints. Treasure discussions don't require moderation and carburation. Sometimes brand loyalty runs hot, but rarely fisticuffs or worse.

Just FYI, anyone threatening violence against a member here or against anyone is the quickest way to earn ban here....

Believe me, Treasure discussions takes a lot more moderation than you think

Let's change the subject from "politics" to "colpitis" .. all the same letters and it may be of more interest.😻

Too bad?

You know the option is starting your own site and pretending detecting doesn't involve any politics?

Public parks. Curb strips. Beaches.
Antiquity laws.
treasure trove laws.
Private land trespassing laws.
None of that affects you?
Sweet!
This. I’ve yet to find a hobby that didn’t have someone trying to regulate it or ban it outright. And I’ve had many, many hobbies.

Wouldn’t it be nice if politics weren’t involved in everything and we could just mind our own business while enjoying it. Better get used to it.

I would consider metal detecting a hobby, but not political discussion. I could in no way regulate it or ban it here, nor would I even try. Some would agree with me, others will not.

I honestly do not know any of the posters on this site. I only know about the finds they post. I have no interest in their political affiliations or beliefs.

I have been a member of this site for almost six years. I am an avid metal detectorist. I go out into the field frequently, and detect for 6-8 hours per session. All weather conditions. I post my finds here. I learn from other detectorists, hopefully some will learn something from me. I am inspired by viewing others finds. hopefully my finds inspire others. Of all of my posts, this is the only one that could be construed as a political post, yet technically, it only questioned whether or not political discussion is a treasure seeking activity appropriate for a site named TreasureNet dedicated to "all forms of treasure hunting." People who enjoy political posting are trying to, or are inadvertently, turning this into a political post.

I take breaks from this site when I don't find anything to post. I have been gong out detecting in freezing, snowy, windy weather lately, 2-3 times per week. I am searching for scant colonial finds so the returns can be low.

An argument that has not been made is that political discussion can raise site activity and pad the stats to make it more profitable for the operators. I feel that is a good argument. Or, they could raise the charter fee and make it mandatory. That is debatable, but I would pay a higher charter fee.

I do think of politics when in the woods detecting. I think of the clowns trying to outlaw what I enjoy. I think about the ignorant servants burning my land and starving us of work and wealth in the name of preservation.

Anyway politics are important, but need not be the focus of topic here.

I for one will be focusing on what a great weekend (and Monday) we are having. Lots of sunshine!

I also would not likely not share a find in this thread. Nothing personal. It’s just not the right forum.

Is that a Manticore detector?

I’ve been eyeing that one.

Yes. I love it. I started with the White's Spectra V3i, then the Minelab 800, 900, and now the Manticore for well over a year. I am very confident in its ability to find metal, especially small targets at depth. I am very impressed with its ability to block noise. I used to hunt mainly by tone, but now rely on the Manticore screen to decide whether or not I will dig a target. I have operated it near cell phone towers and electrical trunk lines running the sens high between 25-30. I am now debating buying the larger coil.

Have you ever operated it around solar panels?
I was at a new permission and he released some more land to hunt.
It had a small solar system sittingon the cellar hole. There was no way I could operate the detector on the site.

No, but I stood near a big municipal solar panel array and the transfer panel at the utility lines was loud and a bit nauseating. I am curious. Maybe areas where I pick up noise are from people's solar panels and not the lines themselves. I spend most of my time in rural woods so I am still learning.

The Nox 900 was a big improvement for noise over the Nox 800. The Manticore a noticeable step up from the 900.

I can detect under the huge transmission towers that cross these permissions.
I have another permission that has 20x the amount of panels and nothing to worry about.
But this one was really dirty.
At least the electric fencing disappeared when they bought out the neighbors cattle fields. 😁

I’d like to see how well it works on small nuggets in hot ground
