Too Bad This Treasure Site Has A Political Component

"If I take a lot of heat for expressing my opinion in this thread, I will leave"
= I'll say what I like about the site and the members but if anyone else expresses themselves im outta here"
I never said that. Thats your equivication. Comes down to how much time I want to spend debating the original topic, which is whether or not political discussion is a form of treasure hunting.

Eastender, sorry, but isn't saying we should close down or not have our politics forum because you object to the title of some of the threads like telling a library or book store to stop loaning out or selling certain magazines and books because you don't like the titles.

You are allowed to express your opinion on this without taking heat as long as rules are followed and that also applies to the replies.

FYI, nothing you have said changes the fact you are a respected member here.
Well, there has been book banning going on recently. I just want more treasure and treasure related talk. For the past ten years political discussion has been tiring.

Now you are approaching the political aspects that don't belong in the general forum.

It's not that hard to ignore a thread, and you also have the option of blocking members if you don't care for their posts. This will prevent you from seeing their posts.

I ignore many threads on Facebook because I don't care for the subject matter.

So you never said "If I take a lot of heat for expressing my opinion in this thread, I will leave"
Could you please explain what that means other than if others don't like what you say and express their opinions then you will leave! You ragged out the site wishing it was another way. Utter rubbish its exactly what you said.
Explain to me why you will leave if its for any other reason!
"I sometimes think of leaving this site and searching for a purist treasure hunting site."
= this site doesn't meet my own high purist la de da detecting standards I sometimes think ill leave and find a better one.
You ragged on the place and its members being below you plain and simple man up and own it.

As the late Andrew Breitbart said, "politics is downstream from culture".
When people speak freely and openly there are bound to be times when certain biases and even prejudices come to the fore. We are not robots after all and we must all be guilty of assuming others share our own worldview and let's face it, if we as individuals cannot tolerate those who share different opinions then we should really just unsulate and find a cosy little echo chamber far from the maddening crowds.

(Deleted for politics)
You were doing so well till the last paragraph then you start to go down that road of another topic. Why?

Look in the mirror (your place of digging) it's got some ask-no tell history.

Love BOC....

This is not treasure-related, but since we are in the General Discussion Forum, here is one of my photos of BOC's founding members Joe and Albert Bouchard being inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame March 2017. As you probably know, they started as The Soft White Underbelly playing around Stony Brook Univ., LI. I was a music photographer for over ten years, and my images will be featured in an upcoming coffee table book this year. A special treat for this show was the addition of Alice Cooper's bass player Dennis Dunaway with the band. They played "I'm Eighteen" which was a teen anthem for me.

Now why did post something that is clearly treasures of your career?

See its all in the content, and that post was certainly interesting and has the 😎 factor.
What interesting 10 yrs it must of been actually.

Go back and read my posts. Great praise for the site. I contribute to the site, both in posts and money. If I wrote it I obviously said it. Not all members engage in political discussion. I criticized hosting political discussion here, not individuals engaged in it.

Btw, I'm on my third Minelab detector. Love them. Have friends in Australia too.

Let's keep it cordial please.... :icon_thumleft:

It summed up my point. We could go on debating the political discussion point, or delve deeper into the mysteries of metal detecting.

So true 👍

Now a personal query: From photographer to detectorist.

Just trying to figure this out, as dots are connected one gets a sense of the passion they actually have with this passion of digging in the dirt.

Well Eastender, you don't have to look at forums you don't care for. Drop your charter membership and you won't see the political forum at all. I never agreed with a whole lot in that forum, but fun to argue with the ones who were internet 10 foot tall and bulletproof, but I have nothing to do with it. However, I support that forum being here, and the right of those guys to say what they believe. (No financial support) Mom told me never argue politics or religion with anybody, and she was right.

Come now, I took aim at both left and right for that one. Poking fun at the left for their Orange obsession and the right for their propensity toward conspiracy theories.

I appreciate the interest and it is mutual. I have a graduate-level background in Natural & Cultural Resources Management and worked professionally as a field archaeologist in the Mojave Desert of Southern CA. Started by picking arrowheads in the cornfields of western NY State where I grew up. By the time I was 25 I lived and conducted field research (both environmental and archaeological) for several years combined on the big Island of Hawaii, East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania), India top to bottom, Central Nepal to the Tibetan Plateau , and the Golan Hts. of Israel. I am currently a Scientific Consultant to The First Nations.

When my son was 16 he played bass in a local rock band. He performed at a famous small club where he ended up gigging a half a dozen times before going off to college. I became the house photographer covered the big National acts there and have many Grammy winning and nominated acts and members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. That was merely a self-taught hobby for me.

I enjoy metal detecting because I find very nice and valuable objects while writing local history. I study historical maps, geology, soils, and even the physics of the machine itself. Mostly, an excuse to hike and be outside. And to think I divulged all of this personal info with disclosing my party affiliation or with a political slant.

And just completely ignoring the political, Eastender, have you ever been down checking out the 4 Corners area?
