Today's find on eBay, an 8,500$ "Calusa" mask

Not my area, but from even just the perspective of a yard sale browser, everything looks wrong, as has been said. That “cloth strap mounting hole” pictured and described is much newer than the rest of the mask, see the much brighter area of chipped, less oxidized wood. The seller also can’t write or communicate their ideas worth a turd, number one red flag.

I can contribute a little actual knowledge re the horizontal “grooves” on the rear face: the wood was cut on a straight blade mill. Either an “up and down” mill using a straight, reciprocating blade, the standard in the US before 1850 or so when round blades started gradually taking over in more productive settings, or a modern band mill, or even a band saw, common to any home woodworking shop.

You think the price is bad.

Take a look at the cost for the January 20, 2025 Sanctioned Inaugural Ball. It’s $20,000.00 dollars per ticket to see the President.

I don’t think my Wife and I will attend. It would cost us $40,000.00 dollars

Eight years ago it cost $3500.00 dollars to attend the Sanctioned Inaugural Ball, I paid it. Not now it’s to rich for my blood. I guess they only want rich people to attend is my guess.
