Is it just me, or are some of you reaching the point of total disgust at the price and quality of TV "bundles"? I don't even have the best package, and my price jumped to $177 per month. For... 25 minutes of actual show in a one hour program. Pay, essentially to watch the same commercials over and over. Some of the so called science or information programs feel the need to review what you just watched, after a five minute commercial break, like my retention is worse than a goldfish. If you add up all the actual information provided in a one hour program, it could be said in 5 minutes. It feels like a con to me. Anyway, I was thinking, because the TV providers charge their advertisers based on the data gathered from your cable box on what programs you are watching, what if we weren't watching anything? What if we all unplugged our cable boxes for a week? Nationwide protest. Same week, everyone tells them to take a hike until the monthly cost is reduced to a reasonable amount. This has become thievery, IMO.

Switch to a Roku.

Amen. And all those formerly wasted hours spent sitting in front of the "boob tube" as my Dd used to call it,could be spent MDing or in some other worthwhile activity.

Just do like i did years ago, shut it off and dont look back . never anything on anyways worth watching.

Dump the sports bundle that includes ESPN and other stuff. I lowered my bill by $40.00 a month by getting rid of one cable box and dumping the sports bundle.

I install the stuff (satellite)....but I do NOT have it at home....

yep 2 Months ago My bill went up again to $180 or so :(
I called & Reamed them out, Not that it is the Call takers Fault,
But she tells me she can get me a lower Price, without loosing anything.
Comes back and Quotes somewhere around $140.
But they don't tell you that's before all the franchise fees , taxes, etc.
Bill come was still around $180

as of now (Just Checked) 165.46

aaaaaaa.jpg

000aaa.jpg

that's still with a $50.00 Discount

that is for cable and internet.

Then there is Things I never Use Like $%^&&** SPorts Package :BangHead:
I have to pay $5.00 for people who actually Watch that Crap.
Just so they get a Break. :(

Local Sports should be set up like HBO

& then there is 911 Fees ? on cable & internet ?

If I'm not Mistaken My internet is Half Price because of the Package
& if I drop he Cable TV my Internet will Cost me upwards of $100.00
with all the fees they add on.

I ditched my satellite about three years ago and don't miss it one bit. We have I think 18 free antenna channels if you count the Jesus channel that I deleted from the list plus Netflix and Hulu (no commercials). I think we pay just over $20 per month if you count the recent rate hike by Netflix. Never again will I waste money on Satellite or Cable, they are a total scam. Cut the cord, you will be glad you did.

Spectrum is great-- they tell you every 2 minutes on every channel--- bigger crooks than TWC

if they can block "premiums"-- they can block the :censored::censored::tard::angry4::cussing::pain10: crap NOBODY wants or needs----- and ESPN can go :censored::exclamation::angry4: with their "surcharge"

cable brings HATE to a new meaning--------

I totally agree with you! I remember when cable first came out and you paid for it to watch new shows and NO COMMERCIALS!! Slowly but surely the started adding commercials to the cable channels. Now they double dip and make money off commercials and the consumer!! I quit cable 6 years ago I bought a nice antenna and get at least 50 channels and I get all the old westerns and whatever I want to watch and it doesn’t cost me a penny. Try it you’ll like it!!

Had to jump in here, ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now call the provider and ask them to "Break down your Bundle" I'll bet $5 they tell you they don't know because it is Bundled, That is what I get, so YES, Cancel it for a Month and start over but do Not let them bundle it and make do with only what you really watch or use, those companies will get The Message, like a Quick slap to the face.

My phone etc went from 67$ to 102 with all the little fees, surcharges, ??Cost Recovery Fee?? WTF. I should get the cost recovery fee. These companies are ripping us ALL off Bigtime.

Another peeve is Internet speed, I and my rural neighbors are being charged for high speed internet, NOW there is Fast.com, click it and you can know the speeds you are getting free and Fast, that is the tool I am using and passing the word, My High speed was a Laughable 1.7 KBps to a high of 34 KBps Still Laughable and Shameful that they charge us High rates for it, I just went without internet for 3 days around black friday, If I had the $$ I would file a class action lawsuit on the Greedy [/B]astages, the SEC and the PUC are getting letters.

Just checked my net speed UP to 149 KBps, well, it is a little better.

Everything on the cable or dish or whatever gives you maybe a few new things a month but week after week it's the same old programming. I've never in my life seen so many reruns. They just recycle the same old shows and we're paying what?
$180 to well over $200 for an hour or two of fresh programming per month if that. What a rip off.

Thanks all for propping me up. I was beginning to tip. I have had, over the past 13 years, Direct TV, Dish, Comcast, and am on TWC/Spectrum right now. They all come from the same genetic stock. When my TWC/Spectrum bill jumped $20, I went into the local office, and asked what they could do. They, no kidding, actually laughed at me. She said, "Yeah, and it's gonna go up another $20 next year, every year." The tech guy, working on some install behind her was amused as heck as I pointed out the greed of their employer. I asked if what they wanted was for me to just cancel. She shrugged, and said, "Go ahead." WTF? How do you run a business like that? I want to cut it off, but haven't figured out how to get just high speed internet, without getting ripped again. I haven't tried ATT yet, but they are the same kind of business. Like the preachers that come in pairs to your door, they send their salespeople around knocking on your door at random times. I just want a digital antenna for free TV, and internet, which has become useful. Someone has a firm grip on the short hairs, and as soon as they let go, there will be someone to replace them. Here, ATT wants $70/month for high speed int., plus a $90 install fee, plus the unmentioned extra taxes, fees, etc. etc. that will add up to who knows what. Plus modem rental of $10/mo., so I'll need to go out and buy a decent one of those for $60 or $70. Arrgh!

I am lucky to live about 45 minutes from Cleveland Ohio. We cut the cord about a decade ago and went back to an antenna. We get about 45 channels for free and also subscribe to Netflix. Netflix is ready to increase their price again, so we are going to unsubscribe. I do stream much of what I watch on my computer. I do not like reality TV but rather watch documentaries. I find it amazing at how much you can watch for free online.

I recall the good ole' days back in the early 80's, up on the roof, mounting my shiny new antenna with all the legs sticking out on both sides. Had to be six feet long and 4 feet wide. Hollering down to my wife as I rotated it and flexed the legs to get the best picture on my 100 pound television. Ha. I think we got like 4 or 5 channels, and so happy with the great picture!

that's what i did and love it
Me too. I switched years ago and never looked back!

177/month? Geez, what in the world are you watching?

I get the basic+ with the NHL Network(+$5) and don't get close to that. If you can stand to wait a day, just watch whatever you want on the Internet. bittorrents are your friends when things get rough to find otherwise.

Well Champ, that's my problem, I can scan the entire guide, and find nothing I want to watch. Up till just a year or so ago, my wife and I were basically raising our two granddaughters, and have had the medium bundle for the cartoons and the Disney stuff. The TWC/Spectrum basic is about 7 channels, plus the shopping channels. Two years ago, the medium package only cost $129. ( Ha, only ).

I remember the good old days of having a huge satellite dish that moved around with controls inside the house. I paid nothing for programming either.
