My opinion? There is bad karma no matter which way you go.

No digging is allowed, and you can't get a permit, but you're going to dig a hole 18'-20' deep...you can not hide a hole that big.

You will get caught, and put in a nasty prison cell with very bad/violent
people for room mates.

Also, these people that want 50%..I'm guessing they are part of some criminal
group, and they won't be willing to negotiate. Don't pay them their 50% and they might take more than just money from you.

As my late father would say: "Son, you got yourself stuck between a rock and a hard spot".

The smart thing to do would be to tell the other people (that want 50%) that you've decided not to pursue this any further. Then turn around and walk away
from the whole deal, find a way to make money legally, and don't look back.

Stay away. Those people sound greedy and who knows what they might do. If they think you took more than your share they might turn you in to the police or worse.

I wouldn’t mess with that for 100%, and likely the 100% of nothing. L-rods are not that accurate nine times out of ten they show mineralization. Freedom is worth more than any money.

It might already be too late if someone else recovers it and they blame you. Don’t associate with greedy people. If some even did some digging they still might accuse you of stealing it.

An exception to the grave digging would be, in my opinion, what we came up against back in the sixties. Chief Long Jim's daughter told us where to dig for artifacts.

As she pointed out, the Army Core of Engineers already dug up (desecrated) all the graves, to move them, because of flooding that COULD result from work they were doing.

However, the only requirement to qualify as moving a grave was to move something like sixteen bones. Which ones was not elaborated on in the requirement, so there were yet some 100 year old, or older skulls.

Karma is “action” any action.
Digging a grave is not good karma. You will be held accountable. If not in this life, then the next.
