It seems that there a lack of young labour period.
Even student summer help disappeared a few years back when the free gravy train was rolling across the county.

It was actually so sad it was down right comical to older folks that thought about it some.
The Township didn't even have a single applicant for their summer positions for lawn care.

The students were actually receiving just as much free money from CERB as they would working everyday.
They had a paid summer holiday of fun.

This mentality seems to have stuck or they just got lazy, and figured it out that labour wasn't a way of earning money.
I guess the parents are proving the free $$$ now.

If we notice this in rural I wonder what the urban is like.
There is a quote I've seen that pertains to this subject. (Hard times make strong men. Strong men make good times. Good times make weak men. Weak men make hard times.) We used to have young men/teenagers work in construction every summer. This stopped years ago. I haven't seen a young American boy, white or black working construction in years. We do get a lot of Mexican workers, some are young, working with their fathers. Their mindset is much different than their American counterparts.

So true that is.

We were brought up with "You want something-well you better start working for it then"

No freebies, though we did get a contribution towards the wants.

Started working for neighbors for $$$ @ 13yrs old.

By 16 yrs old I was on the railway gangs.

The immigrants from Europe or else where have a different work ethic than NA born it seems.

After backpacking in SE Asia for 14 months in 92/93.

We returned to Toronto.
(Slept on the floor in a circus school our friends were running for a few weeks).

Walking down the street, I said to the Mrs " I can see the streets here are paved with gold"

Meaning the opportunities to be successful were limitless.

I retired 13 yrs later.

I always said: "It's a full-time job, not to work."

Morning you old Chaps, Skallywags and Winches :hello: :laughing7:.... Good by to Fall festival season at work finally, 😥 I've seen enough, pumpkins, decorations, the out of town vacationers and their painful kids to last me a while :BangHead:

Taking a little break before the next season, you know :icon_santa: 🎄⛄ ... Yep I'll be off to collecting Christmas trees from our beautiful NC mountains soon.

But first heading north in a couple hours to visit the Mum a couple days :love4: Also to investigate an old Plantation almost in her back yard I had forgotten about. Hopefully get permission and pull something cool from the ground.

The urban? Why it's simple you go to work and make it. Then I'll just come around and take yours! Why should I have to work!?!? 🔫

I met a guy born in Mexico. He was doing a lot of caulking/painting on triple wides in a spendy (250,000) manufactured home park. I was asked to do all the finish work and he wanted to learn. He listened, learned and was the hardest worker I have ever met! Great attitude... no... I want to do trim work when you are still a laborer attitude. We are great friends as are our families. as are our... correct English?
