The weather system is a long one it seems.
The forecast is 90-100% rain tomorrow, but the edge of the system is just a tad East of me at 3 AM.
I'm really hoping it stays eastward.

I think the majority of us in the East are feeling this weather effect at the same time.... You guys in the West ok? Those fires are relentless

Damnit Bart..... That's like Porn for a treasure hunter.... Teased me just enough to give me a woody...... Now waiting on the climax :hello2:
All I saw was wood.
Where's the gold or silver.
Did have a moment of clarity when the Onion bottle was featured 😀

HOLY COW that's a lot of porcelain dishes..... Cool and sad story at the same time. Glad they've somewhat cleared things up from the past. Damn looters will always find a way to destroy history. I'm assuming the fishermen were mad and spilled the beans about the wreck. There's almost no way around finding something that a government won't get their hands on. You do the work, they reap the rewards... I guess Mel was the example of when to start changing the laws? .... I guess this Dutch museum is one to put on my bucket list to visit.

Come on Pepp..... You mean you don't know how to speak Dutch/Portugese ? :laughing7:
Surf I have enough problems with just conversing in English. 🤣
There's no hope in learning/understanding anything else.

Between the British Lass and the Aussie dude, then the southern drawl from a few.
Top it off with this flip flop lingo some are conversing in.
It takes a steady keel to navigate these waters.🤣

The forecast was for 90-100% rain.
I looked at the radars and said the Environment and Climate are frigging daft.
Still they push this forecast.
Clearly it's not raining.
Foggy oh ya.

You're a wood worker...

The striations on the wood staves are deep. Maybe too deep to be called striations.

Were they formed by a drawknife? It would have to be drawn across the shortest dimensions. Not likely.

We see barrel bands in place.
Like old wood wheels the band is heated to expand and allow some pliability before being forced into place.
A simple task for a good coopers shop.

No metal bands shown?
Were staves recycled , or bands not made of iron?

Anytime I see V.O.C. I go straight to the nutmeg wars.( Probably shouldn't.)
Those enslaved in the trade tasked with making tubs or barrels (the video showing a cask lid piece , staves should show a groove where it was seated(?)) made do as they could for resources of course.
Dark days for them.
Ironic as the wreck site is dark too. Awash in currents that can't be stopped any more than the oppression was back when.

The monopoly at the time was hard won and hard preserved. At an awful cost.
The Dutch ruled the trade a while. How they got to that point is a study in itself. But ships and prior work for others were central.

To history a certified relic of the V.O.C. trade has considerable value.
Like most relics , a tangible evidence of a time and people and activity.

Which way the ship was headed and it's purpose is the next question.
The value of nutmeg back then it may have held a fortune of it. In nutmeg. (!)
