THE Random Chat Thread - AKA "The RCT" - No shirt or shoes required - Open 24 / 7

Here is my confusion Rook. I am using my old I-pad to get on here, it gets quirky at times, and I now have wifi, but my i-pad is too out dated to connect to some Internet sites..says so right on the screen.
I received a fire 7 tablet (maybe "fire" is RR's field of expertise :laughing7:) It says with Alexa...I don't have Alexa and I don't want her. Will the tablet do what my I-pad does and also connect to all Internet sites that the I-pad won't because it's age?
I'm confused :icon_scratch:

I really don't know how to explain this but your iPad or Android must have a WiFi format that can connect to certain sites. It's like drones these days. You use you phone to sync. Or pair to the drone to fly it. If you phone doesn't have an up to date WiFi file number, the drone can't pair with your phone. It could be that your iPad being older can not connect to different sites because of the WiFi format number.

RR, yes I was referring to your wood burning skills. Which you will be doing at Grandma 1's.

Thanks Rook, so my old I-pad has an out dated wifi format # which keeps it from connecting to some sites. Like trying to push #'s on a rotary phone.
So the new fire 7 tablet should be able to connect to my wifi router and thus the Internet, and T-net, correct?

Yes
One you register the router and password into the fire 7. It should.

This Northern invasion has to do with materials. Grandma 1 has several pines that need felling and burning, that's in Jan. Grandma 2 is home base for the Great American Outdoor show in Harrisburg. Here is how the invasion/s are planned.

Phase 1. Quick thrust into the North via West Virginia. Rest in Flatwoods at a favorite antique shop. Continue Northern thrust and arrive in late afternoon.

Phase 2. Commander of transportation falls back to Southern territory, while the rest of the army stays in Pennsylvania. Cut trees, burn trees, sneak away to some bottle dumps when there is ever a slight pause in action. Depending on how high the water is, look for arrowheads too.

Phase 3. Commit a raid at my favorite antique shop in Washington...Pennsylvania. This outpost has arrowheads, bottles, relics, everything. Even flintknapping tools.

Phase 4. Fall back to the South, after successfully raiding Western Pennsylvania.

Attack one is finished.

Attack two is not yet determined, but it would go like this, sometime in February.

Phase 1. 3 out of 4 of our army moves North through West Virginia, cuts East across Maryland, and finally a stab North when we reach Hagerstown. Reach our bivouac point, and rest up.

Phase 2. One of our party moves West to Harrisburg, and I make coordinated attacks on Ashland Penn. I plan on raiding a bottle dump repeatedly until I find something. Photograph trains moving through Gordon, and make a trek across to Dannys for a hamburger once in a while.

Phase 3. I move onto Harrisburg, and trade with the locals for badly needed supplies.

Phase 4. Fall back to the South to lick our wounds, and prepare for DAYTONA DAY!

Daytona isn’t near as much fun without jeff gordon

Ah ha! Thank you Rook. That answers my question. Just for safety sake I'll ask one of the kids to set it up.....bad things happen with me & electronics :dontknow::icon_scratch::laughing7::laughing7:

Beeps, are you going to be New and improved?

Rusty R, sounds like a good plan of attack. I’m planning a couple covert operations for next year myself.

How was everyone's Christmas?

Good plan, it's just the logistics.

The dump I know about is exactly 2 miles away, and down a mountain. It takes me about an hour to walk there. Now I'm not complaining, but I don't feel like walking up Mt. Ashland twicee, through traffic. Last year it got a bit hairy, with the traffic. I did deduce a plan though. I'll take a short cut over a big wooded ridge and cut through town. That saves me about a mile of walking.

For photographing the train in Gordon, that's about two miles away no matter how I cut it. The pictures are well worth the walk though. The good news is, the local cops already know why I'm covered in coal dust, on a weekday morning, walking through a development.

And yes, I walk everywhere, thanks for asking. :laughing7:
Last year I did all of this and more, with rocks in my backpack that I thought were good for knapping.

The Harrisburg show is in a massive complex, easily covering two or more football fields. It's huge. I walked for 8 hours that day, and I'm sure for several miles. I'll be hocking some of my arrowheads, and whatever else I have on me. No, not drugs. :laughing7:

Now my other grandmothers house is a different story. Very rural, but there are many good places to detect, but walking is out of the question on most of them. There is, however, a farm house belonging to a neighbor, that was built in the early 1800s. His yard is junky though.

There is an old farm dump beside her house, in a gully. My dad found most of everything though, but I know he didn't find it all. I plan on taking a few saplings and briars out to dig farther down. He found stuff from the 1890s-1920s there, and I found some 30's bottles. Oddly, no sodas were found. They're there somewhere.

There is a large creek at the bottom past the road that is loaded with old glass. I spent three days picking up three backpack loads of 50's soda bottles last time I was there. There were also many older pieces of glass, including a heartbreaker pontiled soda base, near an old stone mill, nobody knew was there. I plan on walking more sections of the creek if I get up there, but with Pennsylvania weather being as crappy as it is, it may be too deep. Perhaps I could take the hike to Mariana, and look for stuff there, there is always a good gravel bar to search.

I'm more excited for Harrisburg, if we go. My mom works a booth (EZ-CUT) while I wander around for hours unseen or unheard from until closing time. Usually I hang out with a family friend who works a different booth, and we swap funny stories, girl stories, and politics, life, etc. We eat food we shouldn't, and accost poor people in the crowded aisles to see if they want a turkey call. When I'm not there, I'm off doing who knows what. Usually I am haggling with a vendor on a fox fur, or trading arrowheads for antler. Then I wander around the automotive section, gawk at the many girls who walk around the show, and visit the taxidermy section.

This year, I have it all planned. I think. :icon_scratch:

Due to this years booming financial success, I will try to spend as little as possible. :laughing7: Instead, I'll be carrying a bag full of arrowheads, and trade with the vendors. I gave one guy three last year, and I got eight rabbit pelts in return. I'll spend some (okay, a lot of time) in the American Civil War museums booth talking the ear off of the curator, and see if I can walk around with the Harrisburg high school cheerleading group like a boss :laughing7:

Rook, I have an ADWARE problem, can you advise on how to remove this?
guce.advertising.com has taken over my AOL home page this morning and I can't access my emails.
Ran full McAfee scans, zero viruses, still can not get rid of this. :BangHead:
Has anyone else encountered this?
HELP!

ECS,

Not sure but believe malwarebytes have a free version you can download. Hopefully that can get rid of your adware problem.

Here's a video you may want to check out also.
