If I had dug the nail with that head, I would say Rosehead.
That would predate the Boston Garter by a 100yrs.
Though it might be from a different type of construction (marine) so that rounded head term might not work.

This little spit of land is amazing.....inhabited by calusa Indians in the ancient times, and then started to see spanish and Dutch activity in the mid 1500s as an Anchorage and watering/hunting area. Then shipwreck survivors, wreckers, settlers, then the railroad, and then campers and fisherman from the 40s-80s. The ground/sand here is constantly changing and shifting over the cap rock below.....an amazing place to see an ever changing living island !!

Backing plate for a turn knob or lever on the Captains rum cabinet?
It looks like some galling on the outside edge of the enter hole.

Or it could be a drain cover. Or a fancy sillcock handle...

What is it? l.o.l..

Sand cast. Cast in sand. (?)

As is the case most times.....the brain projects what you wish the find was....older, spanish or Dutch, shipwreck related......but after looking and cleaning other finds.....the more likely mundane purpose of the object becomes more apparent......likely a twist knob from something more modern and not what your mind wants it to be !!

Sometimes we just take it for exactly that Bart.
Dug out of a cellar hole, very close together.
It fit, so I keep them together.

Im here to drink your beer and steal your rum at the point of a gun. I know several of this crew would live by that motto !!
