I was a preteen kid being rushed along when in the Smokies. Like so many other places , a proper tangible sampling by bare feet on ground wouldn't be had.
There was enough snow that day to toss snowballs, while the ground was bare recently back home around Easter.
But I can still recall the gloomy view . And the particular sight/ site wanting exploration.
Doubt all of it could or would be covered thoroughly enough in a lifetime.
My kind of place in younger years.
Not Newfound Gap as much as less trammeled areas. But the Newfound picture captures a tiny bit of the come hither allure beckoning seekers of will-o the wisps and secret places. Ridge runners or gully trotters all.
Not all of whom return. Some by choice.
