Lol highly unlikely but one can hope. I hope all my friends on here do well many do. I see some members find stuff that blows anything I've found away. Waiting to take that chunk of iron in I found lately because there is a tiny chance it is an iron meteorite. Mind you I see way too many things posted thinking they are meteorites when they aren't so I'm not assuming anything. But my mother got interested in it and found pictures of other iron meteorites that look like it so doesn't hurt to take it in. If it's just a hunk of iron so be it.
I hope it is a meteorite my friend. Never know. I had a trip planned for dry lake beds in Nevada but it never happened. Maybe some day. I may try to look for objects from space at a dry lake called Groom Lake. I figure I might find something from outer space there.

I want to hope it is one but I know it's not likely. I live near the University of Merced. I may be able to take it in but I know for sure the regular college here has a geology area. The worst that can happen is its just a piece of iron that broke weird. Funny when I first found it I thought it was a hunk of lead because it was so heavy. It is iron bur for whatever reason not heavily corroded like everything gets around here. I've metal detected many years and found a ton of junk iron so just this for me was an oddity so I put it aside.

You did the right thing. If possible, never throw anything away that you do not recognize, at least until you have tried to identify it.

I'm just telling myself it's a hunk of iron so when it is nothing I'm not disappointed lol

I do not remember seeing it. What did folks on here tell you? Could you see regmaglypts on it?

I was just told to get it looked at. No one could say conclusive what it was. Some where saying it could be a meteorite others weren't. So I'll just take it in at some point and find out. Doesn't hurt to see. Like I said worse case is it's plain ol iron and life goes on lol.

Ok partner. Good luck.

Groom Lake? if that,s what I think is,and you,re detected detecting there,you,ll probably get a look at"inner space"If you catch my meaning.:laughing7:

California is a bit hard to find cool iron stuff but I do also find some cool iron relics from time to time. I enjoy when those randomly come up
Well I feel strongly both ways. The second picture looks lot like one. Did anyone give you advise how you could test at home?

I did what I could from home. I need to see if it has nickel content in it. If not it's just a chunk of iron broken off of something man made. I don't want to further mess with it and would rather let a place that knows what they are doing see if there is nickel in it. No nickel in it equals it not being anything.

It is what you think it is. Great place to locate outer space objects I have heard. I am sure the government would not mind you driving on in. Wear an ET Suit and they will not question you.

John gets tired of finding gold and silver all the time so he breaks the monotony with a little iron or meteorites! Regmaglypt? I think I had a case of that once, was told it was fatal but obviously not so!
Lol gold is a rarity for me let's see about 15 years of metal detecting I have 2 gold rings, and the gold sorority thing lol so not so impressive. I have a number of silver rings a few silver coins and a few silver dodads.

We went swimming today. Made my lungs hurt. No pain no gain. Then I met my daughter and my dad for lunch. Then the Mr and I went down to pick up his boat after it got some repairs. It was near Cincinnati. Long haul. We walk in and he says hello to the crew. Rudy asks, “ Did you come to pick up your boat?” My smart butt promptly replies, “ Nope. Just wanted to say‘Hello’ to it.” There were a few stifled chuckles, but Rudy walked past me and gave me the look. It was not the day to be messing with him. Oops. Lol. We had this brilliant idea to take state routes home instead of the highway. City driving. It was brutal. Finally we got to the country and we were able to see a lot of old abandoned houses, rolling hills and just great scenery. I am not exactly sure when, but we will be heading to South Carolina to visit friends and go fishing. That’s different.

I think Rudy is still kind of peaved HE did not make starting line up for Notre Dame and only got to play once at end of senior season. But he likes it when you chant, "RUDY! RUDY! RUDY!"
