Oh I see, kinda like the horses head left in Frank Sinatra's bed as a little reminder.

Roger,

Let me get this straight you gave it 4 cobras out of 5....did you serve this with some snake on the side...:laughing7::laughing7::laughing7:

Had a new permission I hunted this morning. The most interesting finds were a musket ball and a CW reunion pendant.

This is a really nice old permission. The house dates back to 1901. Loads of trash around the
House but the Deus in full tone is a great tool to have.

Found out who dropped the tree off.An old friend who moved north to contrary creek a couple years ago,and just happen to be in the area.Think I'll hit him up for a Gold hunt in C.C. !:) 012.webp

rook, The CW reunion pendant is a winner well done!

Roger,

Nice gesture by your buddy dropping off the Christmas tree.

Dang rook, that's outstanding! A real beauty of a badge, great find! :icon_thumright:

Thanks Bill. The pendant wasn't but about 4" down. Found it with my Pro. Then I changed to the Deus the next hour or so. That fired musket ball was lying among some Iron but the Deus sniffed it out.:icon_thumright: It was good to get out for a couple of hours.

Thanks RR
It was a short but fun hunt on a virgin site. Going back when the weather permits.

Sorry bout that bill. Meant for RR.

Wow...that's bad a** rook !! Congrats on a great hunt !! And virgin ground !! That's a great start.

Awesome medal Rook!
Here in Yankee country there were multiple G.A.R. reunions. As well as posts.
Communities seemed to receive them real well.
Some hit the same camping area's repeatedly. One park in my hometown was an example.

At least some metals were made from captured cannon. Maybe all? Memory escapes me now...

One Veteran wrote of a reunion in a community I've hunted a reunion site at .
He wrote that it was easier to get promoted after the war , than it was during the war. I think there was a comment about who you know mattered in there too.

Congrats on your recovery (ies).
That medal was a keeper souvenir for the Veteran who acquired it. And is now one for you...

I know exactly where a reunion site is, only a few miles down the road...

It's on the campus of Kentucky Christian University. :/ I don't think one could detect on a campus, could they?

Bet I could!:laughing7:

Check boundries around it too.
Large encampments had overflow ,and just spread out.
How organized tents were pitched compared to during active service I have not dug into.

It seemed the site I'm most familier with spread out enough that if someone wanted to escape the later evening/night revelry they could be on "the fringe" so to speak.
The one area was and still is a different property than the park.

A campus is yes or no.
You should know first.
I might risk it if cursory looking into non staff/student access was not noted as not allowed. Or if signage says no go.
The LAST thing I'd do is seek permission from actual staff , (after polishing my approach ,including who gets the recoveries....) But it could come down to that.

Great finds Rook, congrats! Glad you got to detect while the weather holds.

Nice Bart! That's a big one! Wall mounting that one ?

RR sometimes if you ask the heads of the university and show him you are interested in history, you can dig and replace the dirt & grass so there is no evidence of digging, and you donate a few of the some of the finds. Plus offer to return any lost rings that have ID inscribed, they just might let you.

There was a story in American Digger magazine recently about a man finding a pendent or something, and he was able to return it to the original owner many years later after he lost it. I think he was on college grounds when he did that.
