ahhh yes...the meat pies! , it is funny, meat pies in the British colonies, but even as America was a former colony, meat pies are no where to be found! (in some ways, Mexican Empanadillas are similar....)

Traditional Canadian Foods:

Bannock - You can't beat Bannock and bacon cooked over an open fire. I made this a lot when I was working in Algonquin Park as a Junior Ranger in the early eighties.

Butter Tarts – As far as I’m concerned, the best butter tarts are made at Hy-Hope Farms in Ashburn, ON

Nova Scotia Lobster Rolls – I’ll try them when I’m down-east in the spring.

Montreal-style Bagels - By far the best bagels made in Canada!

Saskatoon Berry Pie – Never tried it, but I will next spring when I’m in Saskatchewan.

Montreal-style Smoked Meat. – An incredibly unique taste, especially when topped with Dijon Mustard.

Peameal Bacon – I make an amazing Peameal Roast with a yellow mustard/maple syrup glaze for the family at least once a month.

Other foods such as moose, deer, bison, pemmican, maple taffy, and Métis stews such as barley stew are all either traditional Indigenous foods or originated in Canada with roots in Indigenous cuisines and are eaten widely throughout our country.
